er... not to be rude, but you start with a different class. Try cleric, bard, or favored soul.

Ok hen what is the best 32-point light dps build? This will be my first monk and don't know where to start. I have seen the self healing monk which is what I was referring to.

    Half Elf, Lawful Neutral

    Strength: 16 (levels here)
    Dexterity: 15
    Constitution: 15
    Intelligence: 8
    Wisdom: 14
    Charisma: 8

    Feats:

    Half Elf Rogue/Cleric Dilettante
    Toughness x2
    TWF/ITWF/GTWF
    Power Attack
    IC: Bludgeoning
    Stunning Fist
    Improved Sunder
    Cleave (Shintao Prereq)

That's my take on it, at least. Cleric dilly if you want to really go for the self-healing angle.

That's almost exactly the build my human light monk took, the only difference is i took Zen Archery (just for kicks) instead of improved sunder and stunning blow instead of the dilletante.

This, and make sure to eat a +2 dex tome in time to qualify for the higher TWF line.

Yeah, definitely. Half Elf is more optimal, but Human is perfectly fine for a monk. I'd probably just take a third Toughness with the bonus feat.

ok. VERY new to monks, but from my layman's perspective, the only Teir 4 stance this build could qualify for without a +3 tome would be Fire.

i've been told Fire is not a very good stance

While this is true, if you are interested in trying out the various Tier 4 stances, you can very easily put one level up into a different stat and just eat a much more common +2. Alternately, you could start with a different split. 14/16/16 (STR/DEX/CON), for example, will give you easy-ish access to Wind and Mountain.

It's not so much that Fire is not a good stance but that there are only marginal benefits to getting higher tiers. Arguably the best part of Fire stance is the increased ki generation. The on-hit portion of the ki effect is available at base tier, with each progressive tier netting you slightly more ki on a critical. It is a LOT of AP to spend just for that effect.

On the other hand, Wind stance tends to output more DPS that Fire stance, despite Fire being the STR stance. Each tier nets you increasing amounts of doublestrike, which is (in my opinion) a far better trade than what Fire offers. Mountain stance is also a good candidate to upgrade because the increasing % damage reduction and hate generation (if tanking) are really nice.

I can't speak to Ocean because I've never used that before. Presumably it might be nice if you are an AC/stunning build? Might want to get someone with better monk knowledge to chime in.

Indeed. In the absence of +3 tomes, just make Con 14 and Dex 16. Use Wind IV when you don't want aggro and Earth III when aggro doesn't matter as much. On a Human Light Path, aggro won't matter as much as a Half Elf with rogue dilly, dark path, or both.
