The lvl 9 which is one level under quest (8 base 10 on elite) can't. Makes perfect sense to me. The difference
between lvl 9 and 10 on a rogue isn't more then 2 skill ranks (1 from level up and 1 from enhcs). The difference
between the dc's on hard and elite is waaaay more than that. The fact that a lvl 10 hireling can actually do the
traps is a testament to the dev's actually scaling the hireling much better then you might expect.
There is no reason for a rogue hireling to do anything but traps. If the devs put points into anything other than constitution and intelligence they did something wrong. If they didn't max search, disable and open lock (and take the enhancements) they did something wrong. If the rogue has a prestige other than mechanic they did something wrong. If these rogues that you pay TP for do not have a +7 search and disable item and a +5 thieves tools then something was missed.

Or they could have just put their skills into the description. It would be nice if it stated "this rogue has 22 search and 5 disable device" when you go to buy it so you don't waste your time in the quest and your TP on something useless.

Usually good advice but since Clerics get spells one level earlier than FvS and different hirelings have different spells, going for the FvS isn't always the best option.

Default lv 10 gold seal rogue

as stated by Fran, xorian cipher is a level 10 quest on elite. the level 10 rogue gold seal (wf acrobat) was in fact able to disarm every trap in there successfully on his first try last night when I ran the quest for bravery. I was able to give heroism to the hireling, and i'd think that helped.
