    Default Kensai Mechanisniper 8/6/6 Rge/Ftr/Rng

This is a cool concept build, but not sure if level 1 of 3 different prestige classes will gimp the build or whether it can be effective. The primary focus is being an effective trapmonkey with respectable ranged damage and some decent survivability. It takes advantage of the Half-Elf Dilettante Artificer Feat to grant the crossbow proficiencies. Seems to have some other nice freebies from Rogue and Ranger which play into the build. Would love any feedback.

Don't bother. You might manage to have slightly more crossbow damage than a half-elf pure artificer but at level 20 roughly only half of Artificer DPS is crossbow, the other half is rune arm for which you have no answer.

But the issue is I dont have access to artificer class. Also this is primarily a trapmonkey build so focus is handling high end traps. The forced imp spot for DS plays into the build as do the bonuses for Mech and DS.

I think with similar gear this guy would be better equipped for traps than a more DPS oriented Arti build.

Better Equipped at end game isnt needed because a pure arty can do the toughest traps in the game, since they focus on int and there are +20 search/spot items that are easy to get. Arty will put their level ups into int because it synergizes with trap DC as well as crossbow damage. How high do you plan on pushing int?

Youll be better equipped than other PRE rogues like assassin and accrobat for doing traps, but not better than an artificer.

Looks like a fun build to play if you are trying to be a crossbow ranged build who can many shot w/bow every 2 minutes.

Normally I would suggest that you are going down a path that leads inevitably to some kind of Uzy build or another. The idea behind the Uzy builds is to be a *monkcher* with the possibility of pulling out a repeater when ki is low and manyshot is not available to use endless fusillade. However, since you do not have access to the artificer class, that cannot be the case. Instead, it looks as if you've reached a dead end.

I suggest two possible ways out of this scenario. First, you build a pure rogue mechanic, use a repeater, and be sure to take improved evasion and have decent dex to show off your trapping and evasion skills vs. an artificer. Second, you build one of the more traditional monkchers like 12M/6Ranger/2F. This assumes you at least have access to monk. I really don't see much else you could do. The build you propose above simply doesn't make sense as is.

At a glance your build seems to be a bit too...disjointed for its own good. You may want to have a look at my Deepwood Mechanic; it's still firmly in "flavor build" territory, but at least it's flavor with a purpose.

Crossbow + Trap skills a viable character does not make. If you don't have artificer then either unlock it (not too hard even on tokens as I did) or give up on having a viable crossbow build; rune arm DPS just matters that much.

I think a traditional crossbow wielding rogue mechanic is still viable -- not optimal, to be sure, but still viable.

Also, there is an Uzy build that sort of appies here: the Uzy VI 6Ranger/6Monk/8Artificer is what I would call a viable flavor build, but it is simply not primarily a crossbow build. At endgame, it is a *monkcher* and one only uses the crossbow with endless fusillade intermittently when ki <=7 and manyshot is not available. Endless fusillade may be an Uzy's defining characteristic, but in terms of gameplay it is basically a longbow build. It wasn't planned that way, it evolved that way. There are many drawbacks to the build: gameplay is complex, equip management is involved, and it is in some ways simply inelegant. However, the ranged burst dps is great and it has viable trap skills and at least some crossbow use. For some, it is a lot of fun. Again, it's not optimal, but it is viable. http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=361322

I recently tried to create a rogue/monk/arty variant of the Uzy but it is currently filed as a failed project "Uzy VIII" One main perk, if it were somehow made to work right, would be the elimination of the need to cast insightful damage, which is a tedious aspect of any artificer, let alone any 6+ arty multiclass. HP and BAB are two of the major issues, but it's main failure is a lack of quick draw. Anyway, it also corresponds somewhat to your original build, and I guess simply wasn't meant to be. http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...7&postcount=26

One thing I'd like to point out, I noticed you take the iron companion racial enhancement. Unless they changed it, when I ran it last, it acted like the standard Iron defender, where it throws out the grease. This ultimately trips your own party, and is actually more annoying than it is nice. So I don't suggest going that route. Yes, artificer pretty much took everything unique about the Rogue Mechanic build, and made it better.
