Default remove time limit from ship buffs

Remove time limit from the ship buffs.
Removal upon death should be sufficient.

It won't make the game easier but it will remove a source of time wasting (one of the many time sinks in the game).

How many times do you wait for the quest to begin, waiting on recruits only to watch your buffs burning down and ready for new ones as the quest is ready to start.

Naw, just pausing while in a public instance is good enough.

As much as I hate waiting on buffers and getting buffs myself (might as well since I'm waiting anyways) it would probably lead to high level guilds getting even more spam for ship invites as everyone tries to get their semi-permanent high level buffs.

/signed. Just have them removed on death. The current time limit serves no purpose other than to be annoying.

I would prefer that they simply pause in duration loss like the experience gain potions do. I would even be fine with them not dropping because of death.

I suspect that would make them more "mandatory". I don't particularly like folks running to get them now before and between quests as it is though.

Maybe just make 'em permanent for members of that Guild. Could leave the the present way they function in place for guests if unclean puggles on yer ship is what ya want.

I just wish they would get rid of ship buffs entirely and scale the dungeons accordingly...then the time sink would really be gone.

I guess it's mean to force some kind of guild interaction? Also get an invite at the start of your session and then go from ship to ship getting the max buffs.

Swapping in and out amenities to get all your buffs, etc.

Open to a 'abuse', so will never be an option.

Swapping amenities will not benefit your guildies. That will not happen.

Going from ship to ship is already possible, I don't see what will be different.

I don't think that a complete elimination of timers will ever happen. Pausing them in public areas (like xp potions already do) might.

If ship buffs are such a massive time sink........ why use them?

If they don't equate to better gaming, why take the time to
    gather them?

You are your own buff control board, take responsibility .....

I often see this argument in response to requests for changes to ship buffs.

The thing is, this objection misses the point. If you decide to forego ship buffs, how is that actually going to remove the time sink outside of soloing? It's not like everyone else will suddenly stop as well, so you'll still have those obnoxious people who hold up the entire group by waiting to buff until the party is ready to go.

I see it being done now on guild ships, having it so you have all buffs that last through a gaming session and limit amenity spots as over powered.

But only have to do it once per gaming session you don't see. I can, and many can go a whole gaming session without dying.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love this, but it's too powerful.

That would then require that the party leader adheres to that behavior. Which given my experience on the pug scene, ain't usually the case.

So sure, if you're leading your own groups, starting IP, and not waiting for buffers, then I suppose your objection would follow logically.

Otherwise, it still matches the logical fallacy that "If you don't agree with X, simply don't do it," despite the fact that it will still change the conduct of others and thus the play environment as a whole.

One cannot control what others will or won't do in game, as in real life.
Semi permanent buffs will not change ones waiting for the inconsiderate.

There will always be that one that is the last to join an easily accomplished
    quest/raid and "buffing then OMW......"

Agreed. That way people can get the buffs, and then be ready to go while monitoring the lfm's without any delay.

One thing that people don't acknowledge enough is that people get ship buffs for the benefit of other people. If I was soloing something and I don't get ship buffs and I die then nobody suffers from my botched attempted time savings but me. But if I am in a group and die in a situation where ship buffs might have saved me, then it is negligent for me to have gone into the group without being fully prepared. I'm not being selfish for getting the buffs--it's actually the exact opposite.

Not signed to removing the timer, but totally signed to pausing them while in public instances. Just about the only time I use 'em is while I'm waiting for a raid group to fill.

However, I wouldn't mind it if the timers stayed as they are - the entire group rushing to get 59:59 buffs after filling the group is a good indicator that I'm about to witness a a group that is biting off more than they can chew.

Exactly my point. The object is therefore to minimize how many different outlets people have for inconveniencing or annoying others. We already have enough loot drama, guild drama, zerg versus slow play drama, etc, etc. Do we really need a poorly-designed system creating yet another way for people to frustrate others?

The options that would remove this frustration (or at least mitigate it substantially) would be:

    A) Make the buffs persist until death or logout, or even a smaller scale change like pausing them in public instances.

    B) Eliminate ship buffs entirely.

Either option would be preferable to me compared to the status quo.

This. I never understand the leader or party member that holds back an invite to a ship that adds to the survivability or success of a quest.

If I could pass out 30 resists and +2 bonuses to stats I would to any player I quested with. I find it strange when I join a PuG and the L50 person is asking if anyone wants a buff and then you have the leader in a 65+ guild not saying a word.

Sorry, I don't equate the game being easier to the game being more fun.

The idea that folks work together towards a common goal through teamwwork
and strategy appeal to me. Running quests/raids with little chance of failure do
    little to amuse me.

But this is just my opinion of what fun is for me. Others decide what is fun for them.
Some of the most fun I've ever had in DDO was in a massive fail, but folks were trying
    to succeed.

Effort given, lesson learned ( or not) next time ..........
