Character Creation Issue

I have a friend that is trying to be able to play DDO with me and he's having issues being able to create a character and getting onto the world. The problem is when he goes to create a new toon for the first time he isn't able to actually see a toon come up in the character creation screen.. He can build a toon but there is no evidence of it on the creation and even after he creates one it doesn't show up in the character selection screen either. Also when he has made a toon that he can't see and tries to log into the world he just gets frozen in the loading screen and nothing happens. I have had him re download the client and re install and even have gone through all the advanced graphics in game to make sure they were the same as mine and still the same result for him.. He has 4 gigs of ram and 1 gig of 3D graphics and I know that DDO can run on his comp. Please help with this issue! Thanks! He has already tried to use DX9 too and it still is the same problem.
