Mouse problem

Very often now (after U13) I'll get series of brief events where the game loses the mouse button for a very short time, so that if you're holding MOUSE2, it will seem like you let go and pushed down again, which resets the cursor to the center of the screen. Anyone else getting this, and any idea what is causing it?

Back to your problem, could you post a DXDiag report? That might help give us some useful information to help a bit better.

Go into the mouse options in the control panel (Windows "start" button > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Mouse) and under Pointer Options make sure the settings under "Visibility" and "Snap to" are not enabled.

The one it sounds like might be causing this is the one under Snap to. From the description it sounds like the cursor is getting snapped over to a dialog either in the game ui or one behind the games full screen.

Other than that also make sure under Buttons that the double-click speeds not set too high or too low as that can also cause odd behavior.

Hi Mirthgar,

None of those options are on. My double click speed is set to the highest, although the setting does not appear to match that of my Razer driver. I'm not sure which one takes priority in DDO. What should I set it to? I seem to get this problem more often during 'bad times' when it's hectic and my frame rates are lower.

Back to your problem, could you post a DXDiag report? That might help give us some useful information to help a bit better.

It may or may not be that other issue, because that user does not seem to have to hold down a button to move the cursor, but I'm in permanent mouse-look so to click on something I have to first drag. Here is the dxdiag.

Have you tried moving your double-click speed slower? Try lowering it three or four notches and see if it helps at all.

Does your mouse have special software installed? If so, perhaps that software has a "snap to" or "clicklock" setting that's independent of the Windows mouse settings in the control panel.

If your mouse has special software, you could try uninstalling it to see if your mouse behaves differently in DDO. (Part of me wonders if perhaps your firewall or anti-virus is thinking your mouse software has keylogger properties, and is constantly checking or blocking it.)

Did any accessibility options accidentally get turned on in Windows?

Could you try a different mouse, and see if it behaves the same way in DDO?

Your DXDiag looks good. There are some newer nVidia drivers, but they likely wouldn't help. Perhaps grabbing the newest INF driver from Intel's site would update your USB controller drivers, but that's more of a shot in the dark.

Lowering double click speed didnt work. Mouse software doesnt have those settings. It seems to happen randomly, not just when frame rates are low.

This issue has returned in U14. Based on other reports from players, it seems like it's more that the game detects extra mouse clicks when the mouse in fact was not clicked.

OK, think I found the problem. It happens a lot more often if there is a window open in the background (in my case Google Chrome), and it basically acts as if DDO is losing mouse focus to Google Chrome randomly, as if they are fighting each other for mouse focus. Closing Chrome mostly gets rid of the problem. This happens when DDO is in fullscreen mode.

That does sound like the snap-to option in the mouse control panel (Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box) but also could just be windows (lower case w, not Windows as in the o.s.) fighting for cursor focus.

Double-check that setting (Start button > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse > Pointer options tab > Snap to section) and see if it's enabled and if it is disable it.

The other is that I'd see if opening Userpreferences (in Documents > Dungeons and Dragons Online) and changing the line "AllowFakeFullScreen" (under [Display]) to "False" (e.g. AllowFakeFullScreen=False ) and saving the prefs file makes any difference as well.

I know that Chrome itself has some built in integration with rendering via the video card so if you can test this with both it but also another browser too just to see if there's a difference between the two. Might be Chrome's refresh interacting with the games rendering Window in an odd way 'pulling' the cursor around.

Heck, the game detects push to talk being active when it isn't. Game has been doing that for as long as its been around. 2006 time frame.

I know exactly what you mean. I have exactly the same problem. I am going to test if your solution works for me also.

The surprise here is that I use linux, and the launcher pylotro is under the DDO (which is in fullscreen mode). Surely a windows should never lose focus randomly like this. It could be a DX failure though, but honestly... I'd bet on DDO.

Additionally, I'm having double-click problems. I have to double click ridiculously fast to get it recognized. Again: I use linux and no, there is nothing wrong with my configuration. I can open windows explorer under wine and double click there with no problems. I've also tested with other games, no problems. I'd be looking forward for a solution for that also.

May be completely unrelated, but my mouse does this at random, and the empirical data shows... it's related to humidity. I have a el-cheapo mouse, and gently blowing under the buttons seems to fix the problems. This occurs because a light static field build up between the plastic tactile buttons and the mouse case. Blowing on it, just like a damp rag on static hair, helps my el-chepo designed and produced mouse function better.

Dosen't work 100% all the time, sometimes it seems to over compensate so buttons don't work at all, and sometimes I have to blow a couple times for effect, but it does seem to help.

I have had programs steal control for a moment and then give it back. Some times it wouldn't give it back at all. AVG (antivirus program) did this. It was shortly removed as well.

Ah, good ol focus stealing. I have a lot of programs on my work computer that love to do that. Nothing like typing half your user name on one screen and the other half on another.

If it only happened with Chrome in the background for the OP (last year), it could have been a Ad momentarily focus stealing. Pop-up or otherwise.

I'd say your problem is related to popups popping up all the time and stealing focus (as AVG, for instance). I have no such a thing as popups. When the problem started, I tested playing with Xserver/TWM only. That is to say, absolutely nothing open besides pylotro and DDO. The problem still occurs. The problem lies either in pylotro or wine+DDO (or my hardware).
