    Default FPS underperforming

Running gtx560ti, phenom II quad core, 8gigs ram, win7 64

Haven't played much at all since u13 but I know for sure I wasn't experiencing huge FPS dips during combat like I am now. Tends to always drop to 15 and below during combat... sometimes to as low as 5 and stays there. I used to run in the highest settings and never had any problems. Dropped down to lowest settings and it didn't increase performance at all oddly. That's with literally everything turned off lol. Updated my drivers and windows. I forgot how to get dxdiag so if that will help let me know :P I've also tried playing in each dx9, 10, and 11. None showed any performance increases. Opened task manager and monitored processes and performance (nothing seemed out of the ordinary and there were no spikes even during FPS dips). Also tried setting priority to very high and made sure all processors were on. Nothing seemed to change. Any help would be appreciated!

edit* also just completed a defrag. still no performance increase. :[

Long time user of Nvidia cards here and from what you are discribing, I'd bet your GPU isn't clocking up from desktop mode when you launch your game. That or your HSF is so filthy, it isn't cooling right and the GPU can't throttle up cause it is running to hot.

never heard of GPU problems like you describe. I did open my case and clean the dust off everything and make sure no fans were dirty. It probably is what you said earlier because my other games perform fine (skyrim, ME3, witcher 2). Any ideas how to fix it?

    Try this

    1. download the newest driver (if already using, revert to an older driver, nvidia has all drivers on their site) from Nvidia.com
    2. Uninstall you current driver and restart, DO NOT let the machine auto install driver
    3. Install driver you DL'd from Nvidia.
    4. Launch game a new

PS: the issue isn't well known because it doesn't happen all the time.

This actually slightly helped or it appears to at least in non combat areas... My dips don't go as low but still pretty bad during combat. Changing graphics doesn't seem to change anything either which is odd.. and my FPS is sky high when I'm idling in most areas even on highest settings. Just when it really matters it goes haywire. This really has me stumped. I'd like to believe it's from 13.1 but seems no one else is experiencing it so it's obviously my machine or settings. Hmmm!

Well, since you don't have any issues with regular areas, only during combat, it's possible that there is a connection/network issue of some kind. Do you get different results if you go into a combat area but don't actually attack anything?

I was playing on a crappy wireless hotel connection one time, and that seems similar to what I was experiencing. I ended up playing with some settings in the troubleshooting section to get gameplay to work a bit better, but it was still crappy.

I actually considered this... my connection hasn't changed anytime but it is really terrible (satellite, 1500-2400ms latency). But really that shouldn't affect my FPS at all or I wouldn't think so. I don't know as much as I could about computers but I understand a bit. So maybe someone else could enlighten me. To answer your question my FPS does still drop as soon as there are multiple enemies or players on screen even without activating anything. I was kiting mobs in red fens last night to test this after doing the driver swaps. Also curious how much memory DDO is taking up for everyone? Under task manager it shows mine roughly between 700k-850k. Like I said no spikes under performance tab for CPU (stays about 28%-35%) when the FPS drops but I'm just trying to collect any data I can.

    OG. Satellite.

    Umm.. Have a nice day?

Seriously, try picking some different settings in the troubleshooting section. Pick a manual connection speed, pick a manual max fps setting, and see what that does.

I'd say that your isp did some random **** is a lot more likely than your computer started randomly having issues.

Maybe send a pm to Glenalth. He's the only other person that I know of that plays DDO on a satellite connection who plays on a regular basis.

Well I've played for almost 2 years with it and got by lol. I've done all the tweaks or attempted to from things in the stickied satellite thread. I'm not convinced it's my connection yet as I am something else...I guess that's my remaining options though just randomly start turning on and off things in my settings until I notice some differences lol. Maybe there is some other option that now works differently in 13.1 that can cause major performance issues (similar to environmental stencil shadowing) and I've yet to change it? Even though I've set everything to lowest several times. Bah still unsure. Too bad turbine doesn't have any employees with more knowledge on these subjects. heh

While I certainly agree that it still might not be your connection, any reasonable person will sit up and take notice when you use the word "satellite" - it's such an important and relevant piece of information because of how different and historically problematic satellite connections have been for years.

Satellite connections have historically been "different" in many ways than other types of connections. I don't know much about satellites, but there are so many factors that can affect transmission (in both directions), and these factors can change: placement and altitude of satellite, weather, how well the antennas at the top and bottom are positioned, heck even the recent sunstorms might be affecting things.

Turbine may or may not have made subtle changes to its software, or any system along your route, but I'm sure by their very nature they were tested and optimized for the broad base of internet users and any affects on satellite I am sure were unintended.

But, being on satellite, I would always look there first, and probably second. I'd follow that advice to connect with any other satellite players and compare notes...

I don't remember if you submitted a ticket, if you haven't, you might. Definitely mention the satellite connection up front.
