Default Logitech Setpoint not responding in game

Ive just came back to ddo after 6-8 months. Ive always used most of the buttons on my mouse. Now in game they do nothing, in key mapping they arent even recognized when i try to set a button to something on my mouse.
Out of game they react fine. I just did a fresh windows install and i have no problems with anything other then this. Ive swapped between an MX1000 and a G5 with the same results.
Anyone have a clue as to what is causing this or how to fix it?

It's been a while since I used Set Point but it seems like there was a setting to auto detect games/programs and switch to their profiles. If it's doing this are you sure you set up the DDO profile?

    Same software different problem:

    Control Center version 6.32.7
    Driver Version: 5.33.14

Of note: I just updated the software in an effort to fix the problem, but no changes.

Also I disabled game recognition in the setpoint control panel - no changes.

Game / cursor freezes or disappears and system freezes. Once control is returned I find myself is mouse-look mode (as if I had hit the "T" shortcut.

Worse, mouse sensitivity will, at random moments, change to the slowest possible setting - meaning I need to sweep the mouse right off the mouse-pad to turn my character 90 degrees.

Sometimes when the cursor disappears I have some control but locked in strafe mode, as if I holding down the RMB.

Almost seems like it is continually crashing and recovering?

The sensitivity issue occurs when not in-game also.

Needless to say, enjoyment level is down.

    Any similar experiences or ideas?

(Virus scans with AVG and Malwarebytes reveal nothing.)

    Thanks

I'm on Windows 7, and to get the keymappings to work I have to run SetPoint "As Administrator", at least on the non-Admin user account I use for games. May not solve your specific problem, but if you haven't tried it yet it might be worth a shot.

    Just for clarity:

    What is your operating system?
    Which mouse do you have?
It only does this with setpoint installed? The mouse functions fine, minus the keymapping/macros without using setpoint?

    Good point:

    OS it Vista SP2

The mouse is a Logitech MX518

Never ran the mouse without setpoint - setpoint came with the mouse. Hasn't been a problem before but really not using the setpoint features.

Going to uninstall setpoint and go from there - if nothing else it will speed up the boot time.

    Thanks.

Problem solved - thanks again guys. For some reason I wasn't thinking of uninstalling Setpoint, a program I wasn't using. Had to log as admin to uninstall. No more issues.

As to why Setpoint "suddenly started crashing," who knows? Maybe a win driver update conflicted with it?

Anyway - thanks for the responses.

Setpoint can be tempermental, it can also be nice for making macros. If your not using it your probably better off without it. I am a little concerned that it was working before and now it's suddenly giving you trouble. Hopefully it's not a hardware issue. Can you think of any hardware or software changes you made right before the problem stated?

For those having similar problems, using non-Logitech mice or simply wishing to explore different control software, I suggest having a look at X-Mouse Button Control. I've used it successfully with several makes of mouses when other alternatives were either unavailable or simply nonfunctional. It's a tad more complicated than most native control software (excluding Razor!), but works brilliantly. Best of all it's free.

Glad to see it's working Skeptisaurus and thanks for the post. So many people never reply after they get their device working and future troubleshooters are left wondering what the fix was.

Sebastionosmith, I am actually looking for a third party mouse program. This looks like its only for keymapping, do you know if it supports macros?

XMBC is primarily a keystroke injection app. It has rudimentary scripting capabilities in that one can queue several keystrokes with optional wait states between them, but that's about as far as it goes. If you are interested, a PDF of the manual is available on-line.

If you are looking for a more robust scripting system, take a gander at AutoHotkey. It features full programmatic scripting using everyone's favorite language - VB Script!

    Best of luck!

Not a problem - and so further info is required:

Ended up a hardware problem. When the issue recurred after the (battle to finally) complete the removal of Setpoint, I finally took the step of givng the mouse a complete dis-assembly and cleaning.

We have cats. As it turns out the cats got the mouse. There was a small loose ball of fur in there that must have been intermittently interrupting the laser. You could shake the mouse and turn it this way & that, and the laser would dim and/or disappear.

After removing that (and all the other smeg im there) everythig has worked spot-on for over a week.

Moral of the story: CLEAN THE @#$%^& MOUSE from time to time...

Thanks again for the helpful replies
