    Default Options won't save

For some reason my custom options settings (e.g., video, keymapping, etc) won't save. When I log out, I have to rekeymap everything again. (PainInTheButt +5)

Does anyone know how to fix the options settings so it saves?

    Thanks!

Your keyfile is located in "my documents\DDO" roughly. It will be apparent from that description. Make certain that the file as well as the userpreferance.ini is not locked as read only.

I don't know if this will fix your issue, but it may be a start for you.

Incidentally, I always make backups of my keyfile just in case something happens.

If you're using Windows 7, try this:

    1) Right-click on your DDO shortcut and select Run As Administrator.
    2) Load DDO and make your changes
    3) Quit DDO normally
    4) Run your DDO launcher normally

I had to follow this procedure in order to change key mappings a while back.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using Win XP SP3.

I can find a few Turbine and DDO folders, but no files that sound like they are the preference files. Do you guys know what file names hold both the video and keymapping settings?

Are these both text files that I can directly edit?

Also, it seems I can use a few different launch files. Is this the correct one?
    C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\TurbineInvoker.exe

    Appreciate the help!

    *sigh*

As I stated, in your "My Documents" directory, you will have a "Dungeons and Dragons Online" directory.

one of the files you need, and generally retains your graphics and sound settings.
    Userpreferances.ini

The key mapping file will be the other file in that directory unless you've been taking screenshots.
    ddo.keymap

Both are text based, but you won't be able to understand the key mapping file natively.

    Thank you for your patience.

Different DDO installations over the last few years created different folders. I do not have any folders called "Dungeon and Dragons Online" nor can I find any file called Userpreferences.ini or ddo.keymap.

Maybe this is the problem, it never created this folder so it can't save the custom setting anywhere.

Here are the folders I can find:

    C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\
    (all the game files)

    C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Application Data\Turbine\
    (only has PatchClient.log)

    For launchers there are:
    TurbineInvoker.exe
(also TurbineInvoker.exe.config - the launcher i'm currently using. Someone told me to use this to fix some problem which I don't remember.)

    TurbineLauncher.exe
(also TurbineLauncher.exe.config which does specify "Dungeons and Dragons Online" as the product document folder)

    dndLauncher.exe

What would you recommend? Do I need to create another folder somewhere?

    Thanks.

Now that is worry some. Have you tried running the game as administrator?

Are you the primary account holder of that PC? are you its admin? If not you're going to need some admin privilages to do this.

This also explains why you keep losing settings, now we just have to figure out why you can't create that directory. I'm surprised it didn't create it at install, honestly.

Ah... creating a "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder in My Documents solved the problem.

    Thanks for your help!
