Question What factors affects frame rate?

I just discovered the frame rate hotkey (Ctrl-F) and started watching the results. I usually play on my laptop and get a frame rate of between 20-30 fps which seems adequite although it is easily affected by slow downs. Recently I set up my desktop to play ddo and discovered it has a frame rate about 3x the laptop or 70-90 fps. Yes my desktop is more powerful than the laptop (quad core vs duo core) but is that really the only thing that affects frame rate? Both computers are hardwired to the modem.

    Thanks for your input.

Also curious about this, though maybe it should be posted elsewhere?

It's your video card. Most laptops don't have good gaming video cards.
