My 2 cents worth.....
Here is a novel idea.....FIX THE **** LAG!
As a paying VIP customer I am very upset with the lag in the game. I have been VIP for about 2yrs now and the lag keeps getting worse with each update. Having 2 lvl 20 toons that mostly run Raids and Epics on a regular basis, it has been nearly impossible to run them at times. It used to be (a long time ago) that the one place you could be sure to get massive amounts of lag was the Shroud. Depending on which part of the Shroud you were in, the lag could cause a party wipe. I don't mind a failed run but NOT a fail due to lag. That is just unacceptable in my opinion! As my time playing the game increases, so does the lag. It is almost impossible to run the Subterrane raids "Hound of Xoriat" and "A Vision of Destruction". The raids themselves rarely have lag however. It is the trek to the raid entrances that has the (most) lag in the game. This past weekend, while attempting to run HoX and VoD, the lag was so bad that moving forward or moving at all, caused a party wipe. I sat here in my chair watching my toon and the other party members get beat on by the mobs as we were stuck in a stationary position. A couple times while running up the stairs you would get to the top, the screen would blink and you were back at the bottom. 2 steps forward, 20 backward! After 2 HoX and 1 VoD wipe due to the lag, the party was so disgusted that several left party and some even quit the game.
Due to the severe lag, myself and some friends have started playing Star Trek Online. STO has a huge world to explore and just as many people playing at any given time as DDO. Yet in the 2 months I have played STO, I have only experienced lag once. And that was due to my computer having something going on in the background. So it is possible to have an MMORPG that has thousands of players with little or no lag. Why is DDO so laggy? And why can't it be fixed?
I have thought hard on the subject and think I have these choices; (1) stop paying for the game, (2) stop playing the game altogether, avoid the quests, raids, epic adventures that typically have a lot of lag or (3) start a boycott that will hopefully open the developers eyes and force Turbine to do something about the lag.
I realize that Turbine is in the business of making money and in a couple months they will be rolling out the "Menace of the Underdark". I am looking forward to the release on June 25th. However, while questing, the main topic I hear is that players would like to see Turbine fix the lag rather than come out with new content and useless pets!
How about spending some cash on more servers, upgraded hardware or a code rewrite?
