    Default Background music

I was wondering if there were any plans for some better background music to come to the game. (no offence but the stuff we have now is terrable and not in the least bit memorable). I would just like to hear something with a strong melody as opposed to in explorer area where 50% of the time there is no background music at all. I think that it helps the gaming experience along and helps immerse players in the game.

I've found that the preference for ambient soundtracks, low-intrusion melodies, and percussive tunes used in DDO is more of a blessing than a curse. Having intense or strong melodies are very grating if you have to hear them for over 5 minutes in a row (which can happen in places like A Vision of Destruction or Under the Big Top).

However, that isn't to say some nice tracks can't be found in DDO. Some of the ones I quite enjoy (and often see others request or mention) include:
    Under the Big Top
    Medusa's Dance
    Siegebreaker Fight #2
    The Devout of the Spinner

    Character Creation
    Hall of the Mark
    Eye of the Titan
    Phiarlan Chapterhouse
    Pirate Theme #1
    Plane of Night
    Spinner's Lair
    The Shroud (Start)
    A Tavern Far Away
    Crystal Cove

Also, all the mentioned tracks above I've found myself humming at one point or time, which is often a great indicator that a musical piece has a strong melody and/or memorable.

Yes, I do enjoy my Jeremy Soule, Inon Zur, Paul Romero, Rob King, Kenji Ito, Yasunori Mitsuda, Shoji Meguro, Motoi Sakuraba, and so on, but I think the folks who deal with the music in DDO took the right path. The music used is situationally fitting and matched as well as often not being something I would conventionally expect (which is fine, being we are in Eberron).

If you still find the DDO Music to be lacking, you can also turn off the music and have something playing music that you do enjoy. You can't please everyone (for instance, I know when I used to play Everquest II, I changed all the music files to something else because the light-hearted melodies really began to annoy me).

DDO has music? Yes, take a listen!
Shuriken, the most potent weapon in the game when used in the right hands.

I have tried that but even when I put other music really low it still completely cuts out any voice chat because it is at 3% of the rest of the game volume even with all other volumes on min and just voice on max.

Every so often I like to turn the background music on, some of it is actually quite good and adds to the atmosphere.

The character screen theme in particular brings back very strong feelings of nostalgia.

I have grown to love the "soundtrack" of "Partycrashers".

Now I'd like to have that on CD ...

I love the DDO music. I find it very memorable and it adds to the experience, just as you say it doesn't. That doesn't make it good anymore than a person who doesn't like it making it bad.

It's a personal opinion and you have the choice to turn it off.

It's unlikely that they could come up with music that made everyone happy- some people will always have a different opinion.

some of it is memorable but im talking about a lot places there is no music at all or only when your close to hostiles it plays music but then when they are dead music drops off.

Also I wonder if turbine could use music done by puplic artists and groups like pendulum consitering they are both owned by Time Warner/Warner bros./Warner Music...anyone know the answer to that?

If you want to listen to drum and bass music while playing, DDO by all means turn the background music off and put on your own soundtrack.

It's best to stick with movie soundtrack style music, as that will hit the greatest cross section of tastes, rather than include music by label artists. For example, I would personally prefer the entire game should be set to metal, which I'm sure a lot of people would consider polarizing.

the drum and bass was just an example but use different sound tracks for different sutuations and different genres for different quests/explorer ares/town areas. Yes the phiarlin carnivl plays metal when ever you fight tieflings but when thay are dead it stops and its kinda crappy metal I'm just wondeering if they would play anything more potent with out having to turn off the game music and change tracks on my comp everytime i change an instance to cover up a lot of crappy music (not to say there are not some good ones like the medusa theme and others). They released the missing chain to be scary and put no scary music with it (at which point I dont think drum and bass or metal would be appropriet for that), I just want somehting a little more immusive.

I think that a lot of the metal would go well with all of the devil/demon quests like fighting sally or harry and D&B/techno might go nice with some of the house C stuff.

(and yes im well aware of "they cant please everyone" I would like to know others opinions on the matter like/dislike whatever)

Also my point is you can ask anyone who plays this to hum the harry potter theme and 95% can after watching the movies once or twice (also owned by warner bros ) but 95% cant hum the market theme that everyone listenes to on a daily basis...
