Curiosity about unexpected xp

Hello there

Yesterday I was doing some favor runs with my lvl 14 fighter, along with a lvl 15 sorc friend, and we came across 2 quests.

1. Reclamation: lvl 11 on hard (we could not open elite) = 0 xp
2. The Graverobber: lvl 9 on elite = 3,000 xp (including breakables, mobs killing and 1st time completion bonuses)

How could that be, a lower lvl quest actually giving xp when a higher lvl one did not? I have not repeated the first quest in order to cap or decrease my xp (I don't even like Ataraxia's quests so much because they take me too much time and trouble getting there).

Did you reenter Reclamation (netting a reentry penalty)?

The penalties are added up first on the EXP sheet. If the penalties get to -100% or more, then you will get no EXP upon finishing the quest.

No, nobody reentered, nobody died, they were both clean quests with nothing peculiar to point.

The XP breakdown will tell you what all of your penalties and bonuses are.

All penalties stack by adding together as a penalty on your base XP. Since bonus XP is also applied to base XP, penalties aren't as significant as they used to be with one exception - if the penalty adds up to 100% or more, then you will get 0 XP.

You will have some penalty to XP because your highest character level is higher than the quest's level. Apparently, there were some other penalties in that quest as well that you didn't notice.

Maybe the fact that I've run that quest 1 or 2 times long before, but no more than that. That not enough for xp cut, I think?

Did you enter a quest late? There's an -80% penalty for late entry.

Go step back in the quest and look at the XP breakdown. Remember the over level penalty will be -50% instead of -25% because your level 15 friend won't be there.
