    Default Barb DR

What's the max DR achievable for a fleshie barb? Is it worth putting AP into? Thanks

Pure barb gets DR 7; Imp barb DR I&II enhs bump it up to DR 9. Aaaaand...that's it. Doesn't stack with anything, unfortunately. Whether it's worth the enh pts largely depends on whether you have a better source of DR, IMHO, and if you have to give up anything more useful for those 6 APs.

seems like it's the max inherant / enhancement barb max.

seems to be falling well short of the DR you'd achieve with 1 or 2 shield mastery feats and a tier 3 Alchemical tower shield.

    Good Barb, No Shield.

Stoneskin gets used up pretty fast, and you will have a hard time re-applying it once the battle is in full swing.

Even good barbs need shields. They don't realize how much of a drain they are (needlessly) when tanking Horoth by swinging with double frenzies instead of just shield blocking and absorbing a lot of the damage. Takes people from the spell-scroll-spell-fullmeta CCW-scroll.... (etc, etc) to the scroll only chain, with maybe a heal spell in there for good measure.

And in that case, all your DPS is doing is reducing the ~ 1-2 minutes it takes to take Horoth down after Sully is dead. By sometimes not even a solid amount.

BYOH. Know it, abide by it, or don't mess with those who do.

You are correct, actually every character should have a good shield.

It was meant as general advice though, seen enough full time S&B Barbs.

I was trying to avoid the creation of another.

Believe it or not, have one for my Monk. Even our DR 10/Epic is bypassable.

mhmm, that's when i switch to earth stance for 20% damage reduction and block.

beats becoming uncentred and blowing a feat on shield mastery.

I know of nothing that penetrates DR 10/Epic. Beyond that, earth stance 3 or 4 (along with shadow fade, if you're a dark monk) give a lot of benefit to not using a shield on a monk.

Monks are the only class where using a shield (situationally) is a BAD idea, though.

Epic damage crops up in some interesting places, such as paragon kobolds in Enter the Kobold. Then there's also things like epic Lailat, but that's less interesting.

It's not when it's bypassing all of your Monk's DR.

    Suddenly it becomes very interesting.

To add to this, there is no player weapon that can bypass monster epic DR, so it's unbypassable on monsters. Sort of like the portals in Shroud.

Epic Queen Lailat and Epic Lord of Blades are pretty much the only raid bosses that can bypass player epic DR.

Aren't Epic weapons, by nature, supposed to do just that? Bypass Epic DR?

Or did the Dev's miscode something and they're "supposed" to, but don't?

From what I recall (using eSoS against my friend, who's a capped monk), it didn't break DR Epic. Someone else can probably confirm/deny, hopefully.
