Yes,yes, we all hate the dreaded Coyle. So why not come out with a quest where you can kill. That happened with Inquisitor Gnnomon, so why not Coyle. Some might say he's already died,a lot, but why not let us go to Doloruh. I'm pretty sure that's one of the teleport options when you go to Amrath. Don't care how it happens but I want to kill Coyle.

I think the problem is that Coyle "joins the club" in the next part. They'd have to revamp the last fight to fit that in.

Edit: Have the normal training dummy, but "upgrade it" with a photograph of coyle's face tacked onto the head!

It should be a consumable, like the pumpkin grenades. Throw one at the training dummy and it tacks on a picture of Coyle on his head and with a big sign hanging from a cord around his neck that says 'Zerger!.'

Sell them in the DDO store for 75 TPs each and watch the riches come flowing in.

Slightly off-topic (or is it on topic?): With the changes to hireling AI from a couple of updates ago, I find defending Coyle easy now as long as I bring a hireling cleric. They won't heal me no matter how much I tell them to, but let an NPC take 5 hps from a glancing blow and those heals start flying...

Honestly, he's so easy to control and keep alive I'm left wishing ppl would post videos of runs that have gone south. I don't get it. I found Commander Tesara in Gladewatch much more difficult to keep alive at level.

My horrible memories of Coyle are from running east 3 on elite when the cap was 10. You couldn't buff him, heal him or knock him out.

You can talk to Tesara and ask her to follow you and stay in a place. You can hide her in a corner, throw an invisibility on her, and just be sure that no critter EVER get close enough to her, so she don't charge them (fog spells works for this). Worst case scenario, you just set a divine hireling to her, and she will be healed.

Coyle, is a standing NPC with no control from the player's part (except clunk him on the head, so he get uncounscious), very low HP that don't scale well (he can die with 3 mephit's breath), is on a closed room with no safe corner, and charge every single thing that spawn in the room, no matter where (and he is a caster, not a melee like Tesara).

To old timers, add that in the past you could not (1) knock him down, (2) buff him, or (3) heal him.

And to add salt in the wound, this is the worst xp per minute quest in the entire game (15 minutes for ~800 XP base).

From all escort missions in DDO, Hold For Reinforcements is the one with the worse protegé AI. Only the venerated in Faithful Departed are as annoying than him (and it got a lot better now that two can die). Check the list:

Lars Heyton: Have a personal bodyguard, and possibly, is out of SP. But as every khortos quest, is a good introduction to escort missions. He will not die, unless you completely ignore him.
Brawpits: He can self heal, have a TON of HP on epic, and hit like a truck. At level elite may be a bit hard because of enervating tieflings that requires deathward on him, or constant restorations (mostly from RS burst).
Commander Tesara: She is sturdy (don't die from a single mob on her), can be hid in a corner, and usually obbey your orders.
Viercha Ettervs: He charges a lot, but he know when to stop charging and start casting. And have a good spell list. On Epic, you can just kill around and forget about him. Once my party wiped and he held the line alone for almost a minute before dying.
Aussircaex: She's a freaking dragon. She can hold the line for MINUTES while you guys are lost in the maze. The maze is the challenge, not helping the dragon.
Captain Carthy Cave: Have a whole crew to die for him. Usually can hold his own weight in the fight. Can be buffed, and people at this level have a lot of buffing to do (deathward, GH, blur, displace, resists, mass protection, shield of faith, spell resistance, etc). It's harder to complete the optional to save the crew, but the captain alone is usually a challenge only while soloing.
Liella d'Orien: Zergs a lot, but can be buffed, and cast good spells too. You just need to keep pace with her. After U11 you don't need to protect her on the devil wave anymore.
Kylea d'Cannith: She can't die. Nuff said.

Arlos ar-Kerran, Chief Engineer Derward, and possibly others: Weak, bad AI, charges a lot. But can be put on hold while you clear the line.

As long as you keep him knocked out, and then add some or all of blur/bark/invis, the quest is pretty simple these days. Coyle is still capable of being 1-shotted by a Rust Monster crit, no matter what difficulty you run on, and no matter how buffed with Bears and such you make him. Several of the trash mobs can See Invisible.

I have been told he can be PK'd also, but haven't seen it. The tharak hounds lingering acid damage will kill him too (acid resist fixes this though).

Take this perspective: Coyle is SO hated that everyone that runs Threnal know about him, and go crazy prepared to keep him alive. And even then, sometimes (rare today, but still happens) he is simply found by one mob that get a lucky critical and kill him.

If you don't know Coyle's reputation, and go inside the quest expecting someone like Brawpits or Tesara, the quest will fail in less than a minute.

Some folks around here are still nursing grudges from before ADnD.

The hounds doing the cyclonic blast will absolutely wreck him, and there's no resistance to that.

Given the option, I run this quest WAY over level, with a blade barrier hireling (if I can't cast it myself). Knock out coyle, surround him with a barrier, and lure all the stuff away that aggros on the barrier.

He could have his HP quadrupled, and he'd still be the most annoying escort in the game by a huge margin.
