    Default DDO data usage

    Hello there,

I was wondering how much download data DDO uses on average per hour.

    Cheers

I checked connection status ingame some day, I remember upload/download average <1kByte/s makes less than 3.6 MByte/h. Helped? Elsewise someone probably can share more accurate numbers.

I probably share more accurate numbers when I come back from work. =)

I once checked 1 day of usage and it averaged under 8KB/s with intense usage of multiple characters and different maps/quests/raids with a peak of 14KB/s.

I was on a capped prepaid broadband once, so I like to check how much download data DDO uses.

From my observation of the connection status, DDO is quite light and uses about 20-30ish MB per hour. Playing for 2 hour plus (which I usually do) usually shows around 50-60 MB.

*disclaimer: This is based on connection status in Window, so likely it includes things like antivirus, Windows update, and the browsing out to DDOwiki/forums.

I was playing with a usb mobile 3g key so i was able to see my data use every day. I would say around 20MB per hour maybe less IIRC.

Most of the data use is loading the game and logging into a character... unless you're downloading an update. I try to avoid switching toons when I'm using my cell phone's data plan.

    Hello, I'm the op.

My reason for posting was my interest in using a broadband dongle when I get a gaming laptop.

Are you able to use your phone? I heard that mobile phones weren't suitable. It would be most convenient if I could use my Gal S2 instead of buying a dongle

Yeah, but connection is spotty at times. I don't seem to have issues when I'm not buried deep inside the corporate layers of cubicles and stuff (2nd floor of a 5 floor building has the most vacant conference rooms), but then again I normally use WiFi when I'm not at work.

I play from a Gal S2 and with a solid 3G it's kinda smooth (quest lvl smooth, never attempted lag fest like eDQ or such), it's not particularly suitable for long sessions as, at least my terminal, tend to overheat after 60/90 minutes of routing.
