Pale Master Lvl 4 spell loadout

So I am working up the TR on my wizard, went from a warforged AM to a Pale Master.

Never realized how tight that 4th level spot is for pale masters!

Neg Energy burst, Death Aura, Firewall, Ice Storm, Stoneskin, Dimension door, Enervate....


What do you pale masters load out on your 4th level spots?

I'm sorta thinking:

Death Aura
Neg Burst
DDoor
Stoneskin
.... and one AOE, firewall for levelling...

WF: Is this a must have?
~ Repair Critical (for Warforged, or only need/use Reconstruct? I have not played WF PM yet)

Damage:
Acid Rain (have some acid spec)
Ice Storm (am ice spec), Firewall when I was leveling

Swap when needed:
D Door
Fire Shield (when Cloak of Ice not available)
Enervation - until get Energy Drain

Replaced: These have helped with the choice a ton!
Stoneskin - wand from the12 (can also use a GreenSteel clicky)
PK - wand from the12

I switch out DDoor for firewall when Shadow tanking in ToD.

Took me a bit to decide but it depends more on the quests you run a lot. Love the versatility of the wizard.

as a PM, you definitely want both neg spells.

FW is always great for undead, even if it's not your focused element. it's also very efficient for SP.

fire shield is available as a scroll, so i would just keep a stack of those on you instead of the spell. the benefits are the same, just a shorter duration.

stoneskin is good if you end up drawing a lot of aggro, but if you are only lvl 10 or so, wands from the 12 will work just as fine, and save you SP when buffing the party. in later lvls, your casted spell will be more effective by a good margin.

ddoor is situational, and you will just have to know when it's best to mem it.

IMO, unless you have a focus in the cold elemental AOE, don't bother with anything other than FW. acid rain can be a waste since it has a short duration - 8 secs - but i tend to stack it on top of my FWs for extra damage since i have acid manipulation.

Ice Storm is boosted by the higher of ice or force; I spec the first tier in most for flexibility, but more in force and acid mostly for Black Dragon Bolt, Disintegrate and an option for Acid Rain / Ice Storm. Also works with Meteor Swarm.

my lvl 4 spells at lvl 20:

death aura
neg energy burst
crushing despair
bestow curse
ddoor (or PK if i remember to slot it)

while lvling i started using aura and NEB at lvl 12 with wraith form. already did carry firewall, icestorm (like to carry both and use which one is better) and ddoor. never bothered with stoneskin, as the miss chance from being incorporal and blured/displaced was enough. and you can get fireshield scrolls.

perhaps i'm misunderstanding this, or maybe its new to me, but ice storm does cold and bludgeon damage.

the bludgeon, as far as i knew, wasn't affected by force manipulation.

if this is the case, that'd be great, but i'm unaware of it.

At cap i'm usually too lazy to switch spells layout much so i use:

- Death aura, self explanatory
- NEB, ditto
- DDoor, soooo handy and scrolls are expensive and rare
- Fireshield, eVelah, eChrono, ToD etc. too versatile to pass and scrolls aren't handy for longer fight (even if it's not a must and you could do with your scrolls)
- IceStorm, any persistent AoE dmg here depending on spec, i usually end up cold main so IS it is.

DDoor (MUST-HAVE; or you gotta have lots of patience collecting scrolls)
Crushing Despair (Decent CC; if you got Mindfog this can be something else)
Ice Storm (MUST-HAVE; best combo with Web, invest in ice/force lines for greater benefits from DoT/Disintegrate as well)

Lev 4 for pale masters is extremely harsh.

At cap any of the below spells have some uses.

death aura
neg energy burst
ddoor
stoneskin
fireshield
crushing despair
bestow curse
pk
acidrain/firewall/icestorm depending on spec
burning blood (high dmg on orange named epic mobs that have no resistance to either type, also good for a deathwarded non resistant mob like the drow priestesses in the new quests, better than the dots for first 15 seconds long enough to kill most of these type mobs)

This spell level is where a caster willing to swap and manage their spell lists can make the most difference.

Level 4 has some really great spells, especially necromancy spells. I use:

Death Aura
Wall of Fire
Dimension Door
Contagion

Contagion is good because it has it's own spell list to choose from and the spells work great. Blinding Sickness and Slimy Doom are my favorites.

Two others that are good to use are Enervation and Burning Blood.

Stone Skin and Remove Curse are easier to use as wands, imo

And Repair Critical would be great for you if you're playing a warforge.

Death Aura (duh), NEB, Firewall/Acid Rain/Ice Storm (staple), Dimension Door (staple), Crushing Despair (very useful when your enchantment DCs are not that great, and even better if they are. Hypnotism + crushing despair + mass hold is a winner). You might think that you don't need NEB. It's a trap.

Stoneskin? Can be used through wands.
PK? It's a mediocre spell at the level you get it due to low hp mobs (fire(b)walling everything is much more efficient most of the time), and completely surpassed by circle of death/finger/wail once you get the first one.
Fire Shield? Can be scrolled. Annoying, though.

This is pretty much my list, although at least half the time I have acid rain in place of Crushing Despair. I love acid rain.

There was a major spell enhancement overhaul in update 9. Force/Repair was split into Force and Repair, with Force also working on various spells with untyped (e.g. Disintegrate) or physical damage (e.g. Ice Storm). "Force enhancement lines now work on this spell. The spell uses the highest enhancement line to determine additional damage, and does not allow multiple enhancement lines to affect the spell."

Same with me, only I use ice storm as a swap, it does meh damage at best, and there's other stuff to grab aggro with. CD is absolutely brilliant in any content where you use DCs and spell pen isn't an issue.
