Now the reason i feel punished for not getting the bonus is that i feel entitled to it.
You're correct. We HAVE come to the core of the issue.

You feel entitled to it (the bonus) even though you didn't do the work (switching the item out).

I'm sorry to inform you of this, but you are NOT entitled to a bonus unless you are willing to do the work to get the bonus. Someone else stated it very clearly. If you want the bonus from smashing crates and other breakables, you have to smash crates and other breakables. You're not entitled to it. If you want to make veteran characters, you have to earn enough favor to build veteran characters (or buy it). You're not entitled to it. If you want that nice Greensteel sword you have to grind it out in the Vale. You are not entitled to it.

Similarly, if you want an extra 5% XP you must be willing to switch to the item before the end of the quest. You are not entitled to it.

The original OP was just ...no.

The updated idea isnt to bad, but it sets a precedent of future items and i dont like it.

This game is already short on INV space, i dont want to see this turn into 3 pages of +1 idle skill "runes" or something like that.

The real answer is remember to switch it.

    Na nobody would do that.

It would be like if Turbine gave us a magic box that when we clicked we got tomes and free gold. It'd be too boring and nobody would do it right?

If it's a task so menial a 2 year old can do it, why can't you?
There is no lag. Just because you had none before and can't play now doesn't mean the server move had anything to do with it.

Added: However DDO does provide you what you want already: Expirence Elixir.
What about all the other items that work by being in your inventory? Have you forgotten items like reagents for spellcasting or potions? Would it be well received by you if they changed the game so that you had to hold the right level of ingredient in your hand in order to cast a spell, or that you first had to equip a potion before drinking it? Or even having to hold a bag in your hand in order to open it? Would this add to the enjoyment of your gaming?

If you cant see the diffirence between a 5% xp bonus which adds nothing to the power of your toon and a +6 con item that adds a lot of survivability, we really have nothing further to discuss. A 5% is really a convenience like all the xp pots they sell in the store - you have to run fewer quests to cap if you use it. Why on earth would they add the new xp tomes as a permanent boost if they thought making xp items was such a great idea? VOM would newer have bin made with the 5% bonus today simply because adding permanent or semi permanent bonuses that dosnt require item slots is a much better idea.

I can - but i dont fint it enjoyable or rewarding. I do enough menial tasks during the day, so i would appriciate if they kept it to a minimum while enjoying my hobby (DDO). For some strange reason i prefer to do stuff that i enjoy doing on my spare time - strange huh?

Thanks for constructive feedback relating to the tread. It is a solution of " least resistance" on my part. And the +1 of skill runes is a whole diffirent kind of bonus, as it adds directly to the power of your character. Ideally the bonus would just somehow work like the new xp tomes, but with the amount of flaming i got i chose to go the "easy" route - as little change as possible.

Its only "removed" due to you failing to click on the item before completion to get the 5% extra XP. This does NOT justify removing it for everyone or radically changing the system because its convenient for one person. Everyone in this thread has been there and had that happen to them before, but only one of us is asking for the entire system to be changed due to them not being able to remember to do it. Usually people go" ah man, I forgot to use my VOM to get 5% more XP on that" and laugh it off. Then they compare their total with someone who remembered, which is a nice little incentive to use it next time.

In this simple example, you dont get paid because you didnt go in. If you are compensated for working X days per month and you work X-1 days and they hand you X-1 days of pay, you got a reward for working the days that you did work, and nothing for the day you didnt work. Wheres the punishment again?

Wouldn't the path of least resistance be to just leave it alone?

...especially when it isn't really a problem in the first place? And I say that as a person playing a third life character that is using both my trinket slot (Vibrant Purple Ioun Stone) and my cloak slot (Napkin). Swap out when you are about to get XP. Or don't. Even on a third life, XP isn't a massive grind anymore.

This does seem to the core of the issue.

Yes, and I think it's about time for the moderators to come in and put a lock on this silly thread.

I've had one or two of mine locked down for less.
