    Default Magical arrows WAI?

    Hi,

Checking the combat information at the bottom of my character's inventory tab shows that the enhancement bonus of the bow affects both the to hit and damage bonuses.

Swapping between normal and then magical arrows does not seem to change those bonuses. Is this WAI? For some reason I thought that the bow's enhancement bonus contributed to the to hit bonus, and the enhancement bonus of the arrows affected damage.

There doesn't seem to be much reason for magical arrows, other than additional effects on them, if the enhancement value of the bow works this way.

I'd be grateful for some advice about this.

    Thanks.

The enhancement bonuses don't stack, the higher one contributes to to-hit and damage.

While usually the bow will have the higher enhancement so the arrows' enhancement won't be used, special bows (paralysers, banishers, disrupters, etc) have low enhancement numbers at levels when you can first get them. So you'll often use +1 paralysing bows - +5 arrows make a difference then.

Straight magical arrows serve a purpose: to raise the attack and damage on bows you want to use with a lower enhancement bonus.

The two don't stack, but you may want to use that +1 Paralyzing bow with +3 or +5 arrows to make it the equivalent of a +5 Paralyzing bow without changing the ML.

Once you're using +5 bows all the time, arrows are there to either break DR (metal types) or deal extra damage with special effects.

Confirmed: that its acting wonky at least.

Just tried using a +1 bow, and equipping +2 AA arrows. NO modification to AB on inventory tab..

Is correctly(Using highest value) applying the +2 AB in combat log however.

Briefly tested on a training dummy, hitting 14-25 with +1 AA arrows, and 15-27 with +2

    -4 str Mod
    -2 Whassit(Hobgoblin) Vigor
    -2 Sora-katra set.

    6-17 and 7-19 respectively.

Higher than I expected, but damend if I can work out why. Still, leads me to believe arrows are working more a less as expected. At the least Correct AB(Despite display bug) is heartening.

AFAIK, It should use highest value with regards to both, but I recall some prior D&D game(s) handling archery and ammo differently.

    Default Thanks

    Hi

Thank you all for your helpful replies.

When I tried a +2 bow and +5 arrows, only the bonuses for the bow were being applied. There was no difference between non-magical arrows and +5 arrows, at least as shown in the inventory tab.

+1 to all of you for helping.

    Thanks.

Yeah the inventory tab isn't always the best for seeing what your plus is.

Best thing would be to look at the dice rolls. Fire a shot with a plan arrow and look at the bonus on the dice. Then fire your +5 arrow. You should see a difference.
