Game Error Messages

After update 13, I've been getting a "Game Error" message everytime I try to log on the first time. And this is consistently every time. Then another pop up says "Connection Failed". On the second attempt, I can usually log on successfully, but in logging out each time, an error message containing "dndclient" appear, and the message reads "dndclient has encountered a problem and need to close". Once you close it, it asks you if you want to send the error message along to Microsoft.
I've reported this bug to Turbine; but still no fix. Can anyone offer me any solutions to this nagging problem. Thank you.

When you get a chance post your “dxdiag” data (the steps how are in the “how to get help..” sticky linked in my sig)

Also try the following:

Click on "Start" and choose "Documents" or "My Documents" and then open the "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder. In there you should see a "Userpreferences.ini" file, when you do right-click on it choosing "rename" and rename it to "OLDUserPreferences.ini".

Now relaunch the game but stop at "server select" before logging in all the way, on the launcher click the second button in the row of them in the upper-right corner (it'll have a single down-arrow) and choose Options. In there under "Repair" (tab) click to enable the "Reset game display settings" option and then click ok.

Finish logging in to test, but this time if you get prompted at all to enable either DirectX 10 or 11 graphics choose no, so you can test on the default of DX9 mode.

This...sort of made it worse, somehow. I can't even get the the character selection screen anymore. Now after the login screen, I get "Game Error [201]: Can't open data files. Check that they exist and that you have persmission to write them. The program will now exit [201]"

I don't know if this has created another problem, or if what you suggested fixed one problem on my computer, only to allow another one to be revealed underneath. I will look around for this new problem.

I just wanted to post the results of following the directions. If that helps.

EDIT:
Well I fixed the 201 error, got a 105 error, fixed that, and I'm back where I started. So I don't think it did anything to fix the problem. I think I have the same error.

After reading the various threads in the forums, sounds like my problem is not unique. My first log in always crash. The advice sounds fairly complicated. Maybe Turbine should try to fix the problem from their end to make the game playable, not overloading the system.

The causes and contributors to issues you are encountering are as varied as the many systems that the game is run on, what affects one might not another and what remedies something might not on another etc. The dxdiag file can help narrow down if there are any issues that potentially could be contributing to it and allow for making recommendations to try to help.

As noted these forums are best for player to player assistance but I do try help when and where possible. I would strongly recommend that if you haven't yet to put in a tech support request since they can get much more in-depth helping with issues encountered there than can be done on the forums.

From my experience as a player, after I've restarted my PC and gone into DDO for the first time, the very first load takes longer than the rest - I presume DDO and windows are doing a lot of first-time loading and internal setup.

Perhaps something similar in your case is happening regarding a first time loading or timing issue, and there are a number of things that you can do in general to speed "evrything" on your PC up, and it might help with this problem. Without seeing your DXDIag report, I can certainly suggest you (and everyone) defragment their disk routinely and make sure you are not running other software that is consuming system resources or bandwidth while you are starting DDO.

But that's just my casual 2c...

It started with U13 and I never saw it at all before that. Since it really doesn't affect anything I have been ignoring it, but it seems to indicate a larger issue.

These are two completely different issues, most likely with completely different causes, do they relate to update13? I don't know, all I do know is posts without info don't really give good enough clarity on an issue to be able to make that kind of determination.

I would recommend since it is a completely separate issue you're encountering that you start a new thread in the tech forums and be sure to include a dxdiag which can help immensely.

Also put in a tech request as well if you haven't yet, they might catch things missed in a forums posting.

Another speed up item, especially if you've just reinstalled DDO. Go to your installed programs list, find "Pando Media Booster" and unistall it. During install it accesses other peoples files to speed up the process. After that it takes part of your bandwidth to help others install. Can really bugger you up if yer lacking in bandwidth.
