    Default Proxy rolls in Cannith

This happened to me like a week ago.
At first I thought not to bring it to the forums, but I change my mind. (Beside, Cannith's forum is boring anyway..).

ToD run, Some ring drop and put up for roll.

    Player A: Roll 56.
    Player B: Roll 31.
Player A immediately say he take his roll back, since he dont need it.
    ~Delay~
    Player C: Roll 62.

The loot is given to Player C which pass it to Player B.

Now, there's no drama here, since Player A already pass it, and those guys were stupid anyway...

I /tell the leader about this, and he was like: "So? I do the same... Whenever I need something I ask my friends to roll for it and pass it to me if they win".
    I was pretty shocked...

I put my own thoughts here:
    - When something drop to you - do whatever you like with it!! Loot it, pass it to your friend, pass it to your guildie, vendor trash it or just leave it in the chest... I dont care - Its your loot - And its your right to do whatever you like with it.

    - But when something dropped to other guy, and he was nice enough to put it up for roll in order to give his party mates a decent even chance to win the item: Keep it fair. Its not your loot. Its his loot - respect the looter and you party members.

Thats only my opinion... What do you guys think about this it?

my opinion is very simple - In England we have traditionally had a 4 word solution for people who do such things:

    Hang

    Drawn

    &

    Quatered

In all seriousness - unless they agree to mend their ways not only I but the guild I belong to tends to blacklist them & their guild for such shenanigans.

I doubt players that do that read forums.

Perhaps it would be better to tell them it isn't proper form in-game?

Proxy rolling makes the process of fairly apportioning treasure deliberately and unfairly biased towards one individual.

So really you are cheating your fellow players

It is generally frowned upon and players who do this are usually either warned off and don't do it again or shunned if they persist.

PL can help by stating what he expects as can the person who put the item up for roll. Ie I will often say ''only roll for this item if you really want it'' etc

    Dont much like proxy rolling.

If it drops in your name, and you dont need/want it, ask your friends in the group if they want it. If they dont, then put it up for roll.

Nothing in the game is worth the fail-drama of proxy rolling. It can do nothing but alienate you from people in the run who object to the practice. Its nothing short of another way to grief people imo.

Besides that, its just plain rude to think your needs are greater than someone elses. DDO is, for the most part, a team game when it comes to raiding. No one deserves "one extra shot" at gear that someone has generously put up for roll.

Hopefully I don't have to start saying "no proxy rolling" every time I put an item up for roll.

I agree with no proxy rolling, but most players don't read the forums.

Proxy rolling is weak, I won't even do it for my two-box. If I won't cheat the accepted system for rolling for my own toons why would I endource players to do so for thier buddies.

Weaksauce, cheating your fellow gamers for some 0000's and 1111's shows a pretty serious lack of character.

proxy rolling is fine and a fact of life. like when you ask your friend to save your spot in a line for something he's not that interested in.

The waiting in line example is zero-sum. One person waits, one person gets in, even if it's not the same person at all times. You don't have get an advantage over the other line members. This is more like an unattended roll of raffle tickets. As long as everyone takes one, it's all fine. Once someone takes a handful and you feel this is okay because they're free, it's no longer a random draw. It breaks down and becomes who can grab the most tickets the fastest.

The generally accepted rule is roll if you need it. Repassing and vendor junking are not needs. That's a ban-worthy violation of trust.
