I would voluntarily toss hastes occasionally, and always before important fights if I knew they were coming, but there were certain melee types who expected me to have haste running on them all the time. This bugged me a lot more than when I was a cleric -- many characters really do need to be healed, but nobody "needs" to be hasted.

At the time I had never played a melee. People told me that getting haste in other ways was impractical, and that's why casters were expected to do it. So I went along with it, biting my tongue in most cases. I remember one individual though, whom I actually liked in most respects, but I stopped doing epics with his characters because it was one non-stop "haste please" from the minute we stepped in the quest until the minute we finished out -- regardless of what else I was doing or how many SP I had left or anything else.

Now that I'm 2.3 million XP into a barbarian, I have to assess that my annoyance was well-justified. I have yet to ever ask a single caster for a haste. I carry clickies and I use pots for when I am raged. I will gratefully accept an extended "real" haste, of course, but I never demand them. And when there's a caster who's casting them regularly, I just ask him or her to say something in chat so I can move over to be within range.

Yeah, 30 seconds isn't a lot. But most fights don't last even that long. Carry clickies and pots, and use them. Your casters will thank you.
It sounds to me like wizard, sorc, or bard are not for you. If you can not keep haste on the melee you probably could not keep any buffs on the melee. Let's be honest here if you do not like casting one single buff on the melee then you do not like casting any. Casting buffs is a part of what wizards, sorcs, and bards do. If you do not enjoy casting buffs then just solo your wizard or play other classes.
