Though last time the community clamored for spell component bags, they made Omni components instead, the pay-for-each-cast option.

I would hate to see what they do with thieves tools or wands..

A long, long time ago - I'd say 08 or so - one of the Devs mentioned that Spell Component Bags were being worked on. However, they said that due to problems with the spell-engine - the Bag would not recognize components that were in the bag, and not in one's inventory. So, even if you had the reagent tucked away in the special bag the spell would fail to cast because the engine could not/would not see it in the bag. It was implied that the spell-engine would need major overhauls or a total do over in order to make it function properly.


And that was the absolute last we heard about component bags. I'd speculate that many other bags types would have the same issue, and that's why we've not seen them either. It's not like Turbine would pass up an opportunity to shill us a new bag in the Store unless it was problematic to implement.

Agreed.

Either way though the omni components are, or more appropriately were an equivalent solution to the 'please give us spell component bags' player desire. Being store only with a cost 'per cast' attached to them, they are no longer the answer.

The end result would have taken 9 slots plus special components down to 2 slots instead of 1 slot for the bag. Seeing how this is the solution we were given after years of asking, hoping, pleading, I would not count on ever seeing scroll cases, potion bags, tool bags or any other usable item bag / container.
