Well if the devs would pretty please bring it back we wouldn't have to re-add the shards of potential. They'd already be on the item. We might have to add another one to step it up to the next level but that's WAY more better than having to redo the entire item from stage one.
Seriously, we're not asking for the world in a basket here. The option to overwrite was already in effect. We'd just like it back again please!![]()

thats just too usefull to be dropped like that, and since resources for crafting are not that easy to get, recrafting whole item just to change one thing is a waste

Removing the functionality to continually upgrade an item is extremely annoying and counter-productive. I'm not sure why this was removed.
As a character levels up they should be able to further improve their items, seems natural and in line with lore and normal DDO gameplay.
This is also needed for downgrading items (especially Runearms) on a TR!

Definitely in agreement.
Please add this option back or at least let us upgrade/downgrade as we go without having to reset the item back to a blank to do it.

Devs,
Players sometimes need to change shards as a way to work around bugs in crafted properties. Please restore the ability to overwrite shards to make coping with bugs less painful.
For example, I crafted some +4 Holy Silver Handwraps of Lawful Outsider Bane. When I get my hands on a ToD ring, I will want to replace the Holy prefix since Holy on crafted handwraps does not correctly stack with Holy Burst from ToD rings. Later, when you fix the stacking bug, I will want to put the Holy prefix back.
Having to deconstruct the item each time hurts.

Don't plan on seeing this restored. The developers do not have our intrests in mind when making changes. You used to be able to make shards of Potential without removing essences from your ingredient(s) bag(s) to an inventory slot, which was nice. Other shards you do not need to do this for it seems, just the shards of potential. This is just one of MANY MANY MANY inconsistancies in the game.

Come on Turbine.....you already have enough time and money sinks in the game......are you honestly afraid if you make the game less grindy you're not going to be able to pay for dinner tonite?

This is imho nothing but a luxury problem.
As an early beginner in crafting I have lost LOTS of valuable greater essences by ACCIDENTALLY overwriting things !
No-one told me !
And no-one tells a Newbie in the forums, either !
The cynic in me adds this imaginary quote :
"Ah, you have just overwritten your shards so that you now have zero greater essences ? That sucks, but it is your problem. I don't care about your problems."
No, I'm against it. To you, this might be viable, because you have 100+ Greater Essences - but to a Newbie, every 1 or 2 of them are of HUGE value !
And that you didn't have this thought just is proof for me that you just don't care about Newbies in Crafting.
How is a Newbie supposed to do that at all ? No, I'm still against it - because it would mean Newbies will be srewed all of the time by accidentally overwriting their stuff and only those who are already experienced will profit from the "overwriting technique".
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"
It's not just newbies. I've been in this game since it launched. It used to be a friendly and engaging community. Now it's a very clicky and time consuming game. And it is, in no small aspect, a direct result of how the game has progressed. The sheer amount of time one needs to invest to achieve certian aspects of the game has made the new and casual player a hinderance to the more exprience players who just do not want to be bothered.
I've seen my share of in-game "quarrels", been booted from many a party for not having the right gear and booted from several guilds 'cause I either didn't play enough (thanks Guild renown, what a fantastic game feature that is... NOT!!) or didn't support them in a conflict they may have had with other guilds or simply just wasn't experienced enough for them.
The quality of the game, IMHO, has severely digressed. It's gets difficult now to log on and play. Even solo, I just find it hard to motivate myself to play 'cause its more like work now rather then entertainment. And that's something that a "GAME" shouln'd be.
And I get that it's a business, but does the bottom line really need to compromise quality?
There are many other games out there that are just jonesing for your money, and if customer service is the only restriction preventing them from getting your business, well you can bet they'll capitolize on that. In fact, some already have. DDO is no longer the only game I play and may soon be a game I no longer pay for.
The way this is put really doesn't make sense to me. You recognize that crafting is expensive, but are against the notion of being able to replace just one part, instead of having to spend the same amount for creating all the other parts except the one you're replacing, all over again to make one minor tweak because... it would cost... more... somehow? Could you rephrase the objection, because that doesn't quite track...
