[For everyone else: an "eraser" in England is called a "rubber".]
When I was a kid, I lived in Brazil and went to schools with kids from all over the world. There was one kid who was from England and he was a little dorky. One day, in art class, we began throwing erasers at him while the teacher wasn't looking. Suddenly, he shouts out, "Mrs. Smith, please ask these students to stop throwing their rubbers at me!"

Needless to say, we all laughed and laughed. Good times.

I was talking about CON tomes in guild chat the other night, and CON was considered offensive.

I could still type "constitution" though without it being censored.

i suppose there were a lot of ex-cons complaining to Turbine that people were being mean to them.

Actually it's not. I realize that the point you were making still stands, but I do feel the need to correct myths like this before they can spread further (even if it does make me look like a padantic jackass).

"Dude" was originally used in the American West to describe a 'fancy man.' One who dresses well, carries himself properly, enjoys the finer things in life, etc. Basically it was a term that cowboys came up with to put down anyone with more education, wealth, or prestige than themselves.

However, New Yorkers; perhaps not knowing that it was meant to be mildly insulting or perhaps simply not caring, ran with the term. They began to call each other 'dude' with striking frequency* - maintaining it's meaning but without the negative connotations, because in their culture being affluent and proper were good qualities to find in a man.

*seriously, there have been books (yes, books, plural!) written about how quickly the word spread throughout the nation and how thoroughly it engrained itself in the American psyche in such a short period of time.
Bronies: For those who get it, no explanation is needed; for those who don't, none will do.

Don't feel bad... I just had a character renamed after 1 1/2 years.... It's orginal name was Booobies, it was changed to Kalhuskull....

I could report 100's of FAR more offenisve names running around... Some GM thought Booobies was offensive?

The rename policy now is a joke........

Just someone confusing your son's toy with her own toy and not considering that the name might have more than one meaning.
