Default to tr or not to tr

So I'm considering a tr (again) when I swore I'd never do it again. My question is, is Drow all that bad for a pm?

background: i'm a second TR wiz, warforged both times. I have 49 int with yugo and store pots. My DC without arti is a 44. I mow the lawn, pretty well too. But I'm tempted to get even better.

TR plan: Drow, max int should give me a 45 DC with my +3 tome (int of 51). I'll force myself to do abbot and get my +4 tome so that I should end up with a 46. My spell pen is 28 now, after tr will be a 31 - that's pretty good. But bare in mind that I level extremely slowly. I don't think I'd even be at 20 by the time the expac is released. On top of that, I'll have to give up my Mabar Epic Docent of Shadow. That really sucks though I can make due with Death's Touch or something.

    So to sum up:
pluses - +1 DC, +2 spell pen, (2 useless ability points? I just max con and int and skip the rest)
minuses - lose my epic docent , have to work really hard and probably not be lvl 20 at expac launch, lose WF immunities

i know everyone loves WF for pretty much every class. So should I put myself through hell just to get a little better?

I have a pm that's got almost the exact same numbers as you (2nd life wf wiz with first life wiz and all the raid and tome goodies loaded up, along with that fantastic docent).

I also have an 'ultimate caster project" character that's 1/2 way through doing 3fvs/3cleric/3sorc/3wiz lives with final life wiz.

On the TR question, if you enjoy levelling (which for me and most TR's i know these days means solo elite runs of every quest in the game one at a time, which really tests your character/gear/knowledge) then it's always good to TR.

If you really don't enjoy running all those quests and much prefer sitting at end game, then you've answered that question.

As for switching to drow for the extra bump to int and other enhancement related boosts to casting, that's a question i really can't answer for myself either, i'm still torn between wf or drow for that final life on Luciforge, and can only hope i've finally decided before he gets to that final life. (Even knowing i have a boon of undeath from abbot with a staff of the petitioner along with an eardweller and both pale master and rahkirs ring and belt sets in the bank on this guy the decision is still up in the air)

Let us know what you decide, i'm sure there are many people out there with the same decision in front on them.

    Coit out~

If your current WF is AM, I strongly urge you to try a PM build before you TR this one into a drow, or at least do a feat/enhancement swap on this one to try PM out. The beauty of grinding an apparently superfluous fleshy wizard to cap is that every spellcasting class benefits from the wizard past life, so you can still get something out of it.

If yours is already a PM, changing to drow isn't a huge deal.

yes I'm a PM wiz, the DC of 44 should be an indicator. I have decided to let the heart sit for a while, and go for the +4 tome. thanks to the update, if I ever do TR I won't lose it. So there's no rush. I'll just have fun maxing this guy

I broke down and TRed. It's actually not as bad as I though. There are a lot of other TRs right now and bb is very nice. I hit lvl 6 in one day. I hope the pace will continue and to hit lvl 12 by the end of next week. Between bb and the greater tome of xp, I calculated the xp needed will require only slightly more quests than a normal lvl 20 would need. For example, instead of needing 4.2 million, I have a permanent 20% with an xp pot giving 25% and a 50% bb for a sustained 95% adder. Rounding and accounting some for the initial bonus, that gives me a 100% bonus, halfing the xp requirement. I hope to be done in 6 weeks.
