Default Crashes and lock ups since update 13

I can log in fine, run around mostly fine, but occasionally out of the blue the game will just freeze, I can still hear the actions I am performing in game but the screen is stuck on the one image, most times it will go into "super" speed mode and go back to normal (looks like a massive lag spike).

But other times it just completely crashes, I get the ol DDO has stopped working send error report etc.

I did not get this at all before the update. I have re-downloaded and re-installed and the same problem persists.

I have also updated graphics drivers.

    The machine I am running this on is : i72600K @ 4.8Ghz
    8gb DDR3 2133Mhz (@2000Mhz 9-9-9-27)
OCZ Vertex II SSD (DDO is on this)
    Nvidia GTX 580 @ 850Mhz Core
    GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 motherboard
    100MB cable Internet.

As you can probably see there should be no problems with the hardware "handling" the game, I have tried it in DX9 DX10 and DX11 modes, but it does the same thing in all.

Yikes, that's a nice system. Isn't it overkill for DDO?

No clue. I could give troubleshooting stuff, but it seems like you understand hardware well enough that I'd be wasting your time.

It "should" be overkill for DDO, I also play BF3 / other assorted FPS games, competitive gaming etc

I had always considered DDO to be a "easy" game to run, which is why I think there may be something screwy with the client, but cannot be sure as I don't know if others are experiencing the same issues.

When I get home I am going to try rolling back drivers a couple versions and see how that goes. perhaps the new update 13 does not like the latest drivers from Nvidia (it happens) - especially because I suspect a directX issue, based on nothing in particular but yeah, i'll give it a go and if it works I'll post here just in case someone else has the same issue.

I've also had two crash-to-desktop occurrences since the update.

    No changes to the PC.

Prior to U13, I cannot remember the last time the client crashed on me.

I restart the client every time I swap characters.

I always get bad lag and some crash issues if I forget to run a disk defrag after installing a new DDO update. I don't know if a defrag will help in your case, but it would at least be worth a try.

You might be on to something with regard to the nVidia drivers. Your new high-end graphics card and new drivers might be trying to force DDO to use brand new technology that the DDO software isn't able to support. You might just need to go into the nVidia control panel and turn off or turn down certain features in order to get things working better. Anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing are the first two things I would recommend setting to application-controlled in the nVidia control panel, and then launch DDO and disable those two features in the DDO graphics properties.

Well, I'm not sure if this is a total fix, all I know is it hasn't had that problem tonight, after rolling back the drivers (I actually downloaded an older driver from the Nvidia site and did a "clean" install).

    So far so good

I have the same problem. Did everthing you did and still locks up in game. Might roll back the nvidia drivers like you did, but don't think it will help. Anyone else still having this problem?

Not saying this is the issue, but a guildie got a bad Winbows 7 Nvidia update recently that was causing his machine to crash. And by crash I mean shut down/blue screen/lock up about every 4 minutes.

He was able to get a different driver.

Been getting a greatly increased number of crashes since update 13.

have also noticed a greatly increased number of other players randomly crashing out of game during quests.

No pattern that i can discern.

    No crashes in loading screens.

Crashes on Guild ship, in public areas, in quests. Whole client craps its pants and drops me to desktop.

Uninstalled and re-installed two days ago. No noticeable difference.

Been dropped to desktop 4-5 times already today.

    Hello all,

I have been playing DDO since April 06, with 4 different computers, all with increasing level of performance.
Right now I'm playing on a laptop with 8 gb RAM, Nvidia GT 540M , some i7 quadcore processor, Win7 and so on...pretty decent stuff.
I never experienced the zoning crashes that others have been reporting for years.
Ever since U13 my client crashes...a couple times a week. no pattern apparent. Sth changed with the client thats causing the crashes. Ive been defragging on a regular basis.

hi all been having this problem alot, but i just upgraded inside of my pc,
so assumed it was something with the install.
    lock ups sometimes causing crash,
sometimes just screen lock for a couple of seconds then play ok again.
would be nice to know its not just me.
been racking my brain reinstalling everything,
seems to happen more in public areas.
    my system is
    i5 2500k
    8 gig ram
    hd4870
    80gb sata raptor (system)
    240gb sata.
and i play ghost recon online (high graphics)and world of tanks without a problem.

Me too. Noticed it when testing U13 on Lammania. Approximately 2-3 crashes per week. No obvious pattern.

    I5 2500k (3.8)
    8GB
    OCZ SSD
    Nvidia 560TI
    Windows 7 Pro.

All drivers up to date. Lammania crashing was on a different (older) system but same GFX card.

I know that there is a memory leak somewhere where there wasnt before. There was always some leak, but it got worse.
I had a crash today. No lockup, just straight to desktop. I have never had that in the year and a half that I have been playing.
Windows 7 seems to have more of a problem with this game when it comes to RAM than WinXP (on my set up anyway).
I have 4 gig and after a Shroud Run, or before I jump into House C, I do a full client reset.
My demands are simple. Ducks, penguins and tortoises as pets. I'll buy hats and bow-ties for them all.

same problem here: crashes out of the blue, no zoning, my toon just stands/walks someplace.
i have made no changes to hardware at all but the crashes have increased since update 13, and it happens on different computers/laptop, too.

Twice now my client has shut itself down as I was zoning into the sands. I thought they fixed that problem, but it seems to be back. Hmm... why does that seem so familiar?

I have also had the same issues since u13. Randomly my character will just not be able to move. Can type / chat just fine but can't move. I have to shut down the client and restart.

Never had any issues prior to u13. So sounds like something weird is going on. ATI card here.

Same here. Random freeze of character and forced to quit game and restart to be able to play.
80% of times when I quit game I get the DDO has stopped working thing happen.

Rarely any lag prior to U13 and never any crashes.

I get those chrashes as well and when I shut down the gameclient I get a Windows error. Yesterday I had the worst graphics errror since I got this PC. Often I had "echoes" of former questobjectives during graphic freeze. I also experienced that layers of graphics disappeared so my character run around evencolored rooms with nothing in them

Since this is not a new computer I thought that might be the issue, but I can see that more ppl than me have had trouble since Update 13 I set my graphics to the lowest possible to avoid freeze but it really doesnt help anymore.

Ditto. 2 or 3 crashes while moving from point A to point B very shortly after moving from point B to point A.
