Wink One way trading & item passing

So I’m doing the LoB raid (nasty even on normal), and I notice that one of the clerics is getting quite low on his/her mana. So, being the nice guy that I am, I prepare to give them an elixir of major mnemonic enhancement. I put the item in an easy to find place in my inventory and open a trade window with them to pass it to them.
However, at that moment disaster strikes. The pop-up trade window severely impaired their vision and they got attacked and died.
Overall, I'm sure this didn't cause the raid's failure (rain of blades= wipe), but now I know that this current trade system is NOT combat or even quest friendly. Thus, I would recommend the following addition be added to the game: item passing.
To pass an item, you would select an icon in your little circley-do with the item recipient selected; perhaps right next to the trade icon. a little box/mini tab comes up and from your inventory you drag the item you want to give the person.
At the same time, the item subject of the pass would receive a little message, perhaps accompanied by a little ding, telling them who want to give them what. Then, just like to get the trade window to work, they would position themselves near them, or vice versa, and click "accept item” (they receive a similar tab pop-up perhaps from the left of their circle. When they get near, enough the tab glows a little and prompts for them to click.) Then it appears in their inventory. Quick, painless, and very quest/combat friendly.
-It would make sense were it real life too. Someone calls out to you that they want to give you something, and they shove it in your hands.
Or course; there would be the option of declining the item via a simple click. And BTA or BTC items would be perfectly off limits.
So, that's my idea. I believe it would really improve the game and cause less "accidents" like I caused.
~ (BTW, people, don't spam with "why did you kill cleric like that". I learned my lesson and won't do it again).

An interesting idea, but it could still have some issues. Any time a pop up box appears during a quest it could cause major problems. Typically the "quest share" box could be used as a major griefing tool, but thankfully most people don't do that to the healer during a LoB run. Now if you're talking about a very small popup, maybe along the side where the "tips" popup boxes appear, then I could see that maybe working. Basically the "giver" chooses to pass and item to the "receiver" and they hit accept. The receiver sees a small popup tab on the right. If they click the tab, the item immediately goes into their inventory. I could see that working. My main concern is that Turbine would code it in a sloppy way and use the same confirmation box as the quest share, making this completely useless.

Edit, now that I'm thinking about it, can we get the quest share boxes moved to the far right too? I hate when I'm typing something in chat and a share box comes up and I suddenly hit inventory, quest log, auto attack, auto run all in a matter of 1.2 seconds, then scramble to turn them all off again before I run off a ledge somewhere.

Communicate with the intended. Ask when they are prepared to rec the trade.
Sometimes they have their own pots and will be willing to drink those if they
know some one is offering. The trade can be completed when time permits.
You see in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Of cource, this function wouldn't be just for mana pots. It could be used for giving gifts without the other person trying to give you PP in kindness. Or for named loot that you feel jenerous enough to pass on (nothing bound of cource).

    Yes, precicely like that.
Extencive testing and so forth of couce too; perhaps using trade window code as a moudual and turbine could work from there.

    *Bump*

Just seeing if I can get this idea back in the loop after MOtU's release and when there's time to develop stuff like this.
That's not lag, it's just DDO trying to become turn-based again.

If you are going to do this, do it on all trade requests period, and change it in the folowing manner:

Make it a chat-box alert just like an LFM join request, with no popup at all. The target can then click accept (when in range) or decline in the chat box, or ignore it completely, without dealing with annoying popups.

PlayerX has requested a trade with you. Do you wish to accept or decline?

For that matter, this could be applied to all "requests" -- guild invites, party invites, quest sharing. And if you have an active request from that player (IE: you have not hit accept or decline) they cannot send you another for 1-2 mins. Nixes that spamming nonsense at the same time. And since the player name would be a clickable link (like with join requests) you can use it to send tells, etc. if need be.

Now any of these requests can be freely ignored when you are busy, but still able to be revisited when you are not. No more popups getting in the way or screwing with your input commands.

Don't care for near necro bumps, but I did miss it the first time.

That's a good idea, would prevent griefing. I think if it's turned on, there shouldn't be any accept window, you just get it, with a message in general chat saying "PlayerX gave you item Z".

I'd love it. I get bags from The Twelve every life, I go to Korthos to find a newb to give it to. To be able to sneak it would be cool.

my first reply to the OP would have been to not open such a trade in quest, unless the cleric runs low on mana pots on that very situation and needs the pot right away.
it is generous of you to hand over mana pots and i'm sure any healers appreciate that, but you could just mail a pot or two after the quest so that no trade-accidents happen. or do as doomcrew has suggested, communicate and hand it over whenever it seems suitable.
but keep being the nice guy, by all means ;D

The bigger problem (for me) isnt even the obstructed view from a popup. Its that the UI focus changes. It can interfere with hotkeys, or if I am in the middle of typing something in chat, it pulls me out of the chat window, and now every keystroke in my sentence becomes an attempt to use a hotkey. In come cases, it can even bork my mouse actions until I click on a specific UI element (such as the map).

Changing it in this matter should pretty much take care of everyone's various issues at the same time.

0h and when i say "the idiot shares the quest" i mean that he friggen joined my group (i think he was like 5...prolly really 10 but i call them all 5 year olds till after they hit puberty) anyways, after he joins my group starts sharing quest he wanted to run with us (i guess he couldnt find agroup on his own) least to say, i have grouped up with mild mannered kids and will group up with them, but this one got me killed >.<

    post i had up

    servants of the overlord
leet, ip teamplayers only, spinner of shadows leet next.

so the fact he came in shared a ton o irrelevant quest, in the middle of the boss fight got me killed...grrr, /boot /squelch it was elite with all level 16's! no divine, my pale monk, 2 bards, a caster, and a barb.

The beauty of it is that one of the options you get when you click on a player name is to squelch them, so even if the timer doesnt stop the spamming nonsense, the squelch will

    or Decline and Punch.

It declines the trade and does a punch animation with the text 'No! I will not trade with you'

or Decline and Squelch and Punch
Male Fairy: "Dont cry my dear. You know what I do when I'm sad?"
    Felicia Day Fairy: "Look douchy..."
