Hi,
The Iron Defender you can gain from spending Action Points in the Enhancement UI currently acts as a summoned monster: can't be geared, doesn't persist in public, and can't be up with a summon.
I suggest that once you gain it via Enhancements, you gain the same things a lvl2 artificer does, including the UI panel.
As it stands, there are very specific requirements to take the enhancements and it's very expensive (AP-wise) to continue upgrading it on a raid-ready character to a maxed-out Adamantine Defender, all to just have a summon monster when other summon monsters are available via scrolls and named quest gear. No one I know uses the Enhancement version at all at any character level, but I would most definitely use an Enhancement version I could train and gear to function the way I want and that I could run alongside a summoned monster.
If you want to make owning the artificer class an additional requirement, then fine.
