Default Questions for Sarlonians about Role Players

It seems that there is a fair amount of RP going on here, and while I don't partake, I do respect that many enjoy the game more while RPing. My concern is that our server (Aerenal) was far from it and very loot/favor/raid oriented. I don't want to step on toes. With that I have a few quesitons.

    1. How do we know if you are a RPer or not? Are all RPers in guilds or do they note it in some way?

    2. Will RPers join PUGs? If so how does that impact your group dynamics?

    3. If you are a role player, what are some things we can do as a guild to make sure we aren't ruining your game play while still being able to enjoy the game in the manner that we've grown accustomed to?

    4. Are there any unwritten rules with respect to role playing that I/we should observe to keep everything on the up and up?

Thanks for your time and I appreciate your responses... provided I get any...

Ex-RPer here. Just a note so that you don't take me as a current one.

They tend to be in one of a few guilds -- Lightstorm's Dragonslayers, Extreme Explorers (who do not all RP, IIRC) or Dedicated Teams (who, also, do not all RP). There may be a few here or there otherwise, but not too many as far as I can tell.

They can and often do. Most will drop the RP for sake of speeding up the groups, as the non-RP players tend to be faster players than they are.

Most RP guilds are either totally GG or will put (RP) in their LFM in some manner. It's actually pretty hard to just "stumble into" an RP group.

Don't bash, don't make yourself a nuisance, don't bother them when they're just playing the game. They leave us alone, we leave them alone.

Usually I spot them when I see them pretending a conversation with an NPC or doing a lot of talking in general chat.

They're like gentle garden gnomes. Don't step on them because they deserve our respect.

    1. How do we know if you are a RPer or not? Are all RPers in guilds or do they note it in some way?

Some RPers will mention RP somewhere in their LFM or LFG comments. There was a movement to do more RPing in General Chat to casually introduce bystanders to the idea. You'll easily notice if you see any interesting, story driven dialog. A lot of RPers also post some appropriate description or bio on their examination page.

    2. Will RPers join PUGs? If so how does that impact your group dynamics?

Many RPers have two modes of play: RP & non-RP. If they join a PUG, without any mention of RP in the LFM comment, they pretty much know not to expect too much RP. They might hope for it, and may even try a few lines to see if the PUG wants to join in, but they might just run with a sociable power group too. It just a friendly way of trying to add more depth to the game.

    3. If you are a role player, what are some things we can do as a guild to make sure we aren't ruining your game play while still being able to enjoy the game in the manner that we've grown accustomed to?

Probably the most enjoyable thing you can offer a RPer is to respond with a little RP banter. RP is all about making a story within the game, even if it's an entirely different story arc than the quest. That being said, RPers generally appreciate it when people don't go spoiling the adventure, pointing out all the secrets and such. If you really feel the need to spoil (to avoid a total party wipe), the best way would be to spoil it in character - rangers spotting tracks, etc. That usually only applies when someone in the group is new to the quest and that's not all too common anymore. Of course, whatever keeps the group happy works best; it is a group dynamic after all.

    4. Are there any unwritten rules with respect to role playing that I/we should observe to keep everything on the up and up?

It's the same with pretty much any group. Have a little respect for each other. Don't go bashing each other. RPers can argue too; they just prefer to do it in character and in setting. Some even prefer it to all the fancy smancy overly polite dialogs out there.

Thanks for your time and I appreciate your responses... provided I get any...
I hope that helped a little. And I hope you get to run with a good RP group at least once to see how it all works.

You can identify the role players by the rustling sound of their chain shirt that you will hear thru your headset. Alternatively, they tend to ignore what's going on in the game because its hard to find headphones that stretch over their horned helmet while playing in game

Sorry for the acid comment, couldn't help myself.

If you are looking for a good roleplaying group just join one that has any member of The Harpers. We are the best RP guild on the server. ( This is my 3rd time posting this. Mods please stop deleting my posts)

    Necro'ing a 2007 thread in 2012?

Roll an Int check. If you get better than a 0, you saw that coming.

That's after modifiers BTW.. INT mod + 1d20...

No, I'm saying you have a recent history of Necro-posting all sorts of stuff across the board, for what appears at surface value to be "For the sake of the necro!"

I'm not a mod and I've noticed this. All across the internet It's usually not-encourage to Ruthlessly-halted, depending upon the level of tolerance, and commitment of moderation teams.

I have little doubt if you wanted to start a new thread about roleplaying.. they'd leave it well enough alone.

I apologize for not meeting your posting standards. Next time I will try harder. According to the definitions in your links the discussion of RP has ended.
