Default "Roll for item" if it's left in the chest

I originally thought of this idea from this thread. I'd like to discuss upon this a bit more so I've created its own thread.

...here's what I think would be pretty neat if Turbine made possible.

    1. A player leaves the quest with his or her loot still in the chest.
    2. As soon as the player leaves the quest, their loot inside the chest has the option to become "roll on-able".
    3. If a person still in the quest clicks on the button that appears on the loot because of the player leaving, that starts a one minute timer.
    4. All other players who want the loot have one minute to click the "Roll on it" button.
    5. When the minute is up, the loot is randomly assigned to one of the people that "rolled" on the item.

This would also at least make an effort to stop the problem of people accidentally assigning loot to the wrong person when they have already left the dungeon.

I remember reading a thread in which a +4 int tome dropped, and one person passed it to another. However, the passer sent it to a player that already left the epic quest so the +4 tome was left to rot in the chest. If the above idea was possible, then the item would be retrievable.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: This is to address disconnected players.

Instead of players that have simply just "left the dungeon", I propose that the player needs to have left the party as well for their loot to be up for roll. This would handle any possible issue for players that have simply disconnected for any reason and will be back in the game soon.

Of course, this does bring up one potential problem. Let's say a good item drops in your name but you DC before you are able to loot it. A greedy party leader could kick you in hopes of "winning" your item. Though such a move would be horribly disrespectful and vile, any leader that does do that will most likely find themselves blacklisted by tons when the word gets out.

I wouldn't stick around for it, but that sounds like a good idea.
take care of that ancient "putting it under x's name . . . doh it went under y's name"
y has left the party. doh, doh, doh. . . .

Not sure how much developer time this will require, but it is a nice idea.

This would be nice, though I wonder if there would be an issue distinguishing between a toon that left the quest on purpose and one that got disconnected. As long as they made sure to check for that I'd say yes.

    More thought.

Assign to: Distributor / whatever. An active thing you can tag to allow folks to freely roll on it.

On exit, any unassigned loot is assigned to distributor.

    Default what if

    <item reassigns to leader's queue>
What if the leader is the one that left the instance? They would have to leave group in order for a new leader to be established, etc... Additionally, it'd create a domino effect if characters left within seconds of each other... You'd see the name change multiple times while the item was still in the chest, and people were still in the instance...
I agree with the premise, but not the execution.

The rolling mechanism seems functional. Once character is no longer in the instance, the item gets 'flagged' for roll. Anyone left can click and wait for result.

    /signed on that.

If you want to travel quickly, go alone; if you want to travel far, go together.

In a group where you know everyone or a guild group yeah thats fine, but I probably would stay well away (or further away) from PUGs if this happened, as theres nothing stopping you winning a roll, a miss-pass, then someone else rolling against you and winning on the next roll (they allready lost the first roll...)

Tbh the item should go back to the orginal name it was under if the person it goes to has left the instance/changed chrs. When the loot bug occurs its spotted very quickly and the sender *should* still be there. I think groups would prefer a "Person with loot stays in the instance till the winner recivies the item" rather than "everyone stay in the instance till everyone gets their items"

This a wonderful idea. I just foresee possible issues with disconnection. Some are intentional, some are not, and the proposed system does not address that.

Good point, thanks for pointing that out to me. I have edited in a possible solution to my OP.
