Default Must be using a hack

I've had this comment a few times now from people in PUGS, from lowbies running at level elite at level Proof in the Poison and yesterday in an elite at level Rainbow.

It's really upetting that these people want to bag my toons like this because I had the foresight to give them damage mitigation and self sufficency... all the while basically having to solo the quests for the incompetent and ignorant multiple-death people, who insist that the only way I've survived is because I cheated.

It really really farks me off, and its reasons for this that I generally solo. It is a real shame, because I really do love the social aspects of this game, getting to interact with people from all over the world, and even make a few friends that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Have I really come to the point in DDO where I can see more and more people who can only succeed on the back of people who have put in the time and effort to learn how to play?

Anyone else had to experience this?

No I have never heard that I guess I have been lucky not to run into the sour grapes crowd. I have ran into players I wish I hadn't but not all of us can get along with everyone. Just ingnore the idiots and dont run with those people anymore.

Not sure that I've ever been accused of cheating but I has wondered from time to time what people thought when my character (2 monk / 18 rogue build) had 10x the amount of kills as the next closest person and never lost HP (well, as a generalisation anyway).

If I was, I think it would give me a good laugh, I'd possibly post it in the achievements section rather the whin--, sorry, discussion section :P

LOL, people call hack in DDO???? Copped it a million times in Call of Duty but never a co-op game like DDO.

Just take it as a compliment that your toon is so badass

Oh yea, I know I should. I just dont like being called a cheater when all i've done is plan & equip sensibly.

That said...I can't wait to run my rogue life as Wax;s clone - I should get all sorts of profanities from that one

Haha try playing an FPS... if you are any good you will be accused of hacking and often banned every few servers you join.

ooo not suffered this one in ddo yet, Ive been asked a few times HOW DID YOU DO THAT?

such as raising dead folks with umd on a wizard, getting stat runes they thought i shouldnt have been able to, taking on enemies or groups of enemies when the rest of the party runs or dies etc etc.

Ive been accused of using exploits (when i wasnt - i dont), ive been acused of 'breaking the game' with builds. but actualy hacks.. thats a new one in ddo. Infact your the first person ive heard of to suffer this 'praise'.

I used to get it all the time in FPS games tho - quake, counterstrike, unreal... recently been playing battle star on line (its not bad btw for a mostly free bee) and ive been acused of cheeting there - unfortuantley there are 'hacks' in that game, and their fairly well known. not that id go there and ruin my fun.

I feel for ya man but realy you just have to laugh and take it as a compliment - there saying the only way they could ever be as good as you is by cheating.

And why oh WHY.. would any one cheat in a PVE game? it baffles my mind.

One of the reasons I like this game is it's the first I've stuck with and not been accused of cheating. Now I'm finding out I'm just not as good as I thought

From the other side of it it's worth mentioning that a bit of humility is sometimes worthwhile differentiating between how much is player skill/original build and how much is gear etc.

Certainly any build can look good if you put the best gear available on it regardless of the player behind the wheel.

In this game, or any other for that matter, I think it's kind of cool when people think I'm hacking or somehow cheating. Since I'm not - it's pretty funny.

    Default totally optional but,

you could always explain to them how you have your character set up.
what gear you are using, how you are mitigating damage, and what buffs you are using.

you know, so maybe they could become educated about the game.
of course, it's probably easier to just start a post saying 'what is wrong with these people'.

I've accused quite a few people of "Hax" though generally it is right after they pulled an item that is highly sought after.

    Default Guilty as Charged

LoL I'll admit I'm guilty of saying someone must be using a hack But I'm joking when I say it, and it's more of an admiration thing... kinda like "You're too good to be true," or "Hey you're really good at this!".
My friends and I call each other haxors quite a bit, all in jest like calling a bard a piker, or an arcane a hjastebot.
My point is here people, don't assume that it's always a rude comment, sometimes it's a compliment!

Editted to add to my point a lil

Let me get this straight. So you do well, and let other people die in quests, and carry them through. And instead of try and help them out or teach them, show them what to do, you let them call you a cheater. And then you get mad about it, and post it on the forums?

Maybe they wouldn't call you a cheater if you were willing to help them out. Instead it seems like you just want to solo, and make excuses not to group by not being a good team player (and thus getting called a cheater).

Please tell me I'm seeing it wrong...

cries of "HAX" is the last retreat for the perpetually fannyflustered

It doesnt even matter what game you play, they are always there

They are specifically explaining to you that they are currently having a tantrum.

Be happy that they cant kick you from the server.

In some games, the remotely-competent-or-better are not so lucky

I have to disagree with this one, a gimp build can be made manageable if a skill player has it while a broken uber build with the best epic twink gear can be reduced to a shiny stone and a fine red mist if a novice handles it. Whats more this scenario would never happen because is it takes skill to make that uber build while it takes the complete lack of skill to make the gimp build. You won't get those shinnies to begin with unless you already have skill.

To the op: Try playing as an artificer. I find that no one ever wonders (or questions) how my artificer did something.

Why should it be his obligation to teach people? Even more, people who display such a childish behaviour as to accuse someone of using hax just for being better than them?

I think his OP could more accurately be characterized as:
"So you do well, some people you play with complain that you shouldn't have survived when they died and therefore you must be a cheat. You don't like their attitide."

How does anyone read that and come away with the idea that the OP should be taking the time to teach these people how to build characters? I don't recall seeing anything to indicate that the jerks accusing him of cheating were seeking any advice.
