    Default Minor Rant Regarding Ship Buffs

    Please, if you are the last person to join a Raid group, please proceed to the raid even if you do not have ship buffs. There are few things more annoying than waiting forever for a Raid to fill, then, when the last person finally joins, they say: "Getting ship buffs then omw.". Raids have been getting completed for a long time before ship buffs were introduced and, as important as your toon is to the Raid, having one toon out of 12 missing ship buffs will not affect the outcome.

    Likewise, if you are in a Raid that is waiting to fill, please do not wait until the very last slot is taken and THEN ask for ship invites or for buffing at your own ship. There is no need to eek out every available second of ship buffs for a Raid that is going to take anywhere from 20-40 minutes.

    Please, if you are leading a raid that isn't particularly hard for your group and the 12th person goes to get buffs, kick them and get someone else that is more considerate of other people's time, or just go with 11. (Of course if you expect difficulty in the raid, then do buff heavily; only your group will know whether or not this applies to a particular raid).

    I like the closing portal in Shroud for this reason. 'You have 3 minutes to be inside the raid or you will be locked out' is a powerful motivator to do nothing but hit the XP shrine.

    If I get buffs then hit the lfm, or the other way around the party still waits the same amount of time

    Unless someone else hits the lfm before you finish getting your buffs.

    LOL...Was in a Shroud run were the PL did that exact same thing. Last person to join states he is getting buffs. Leader tells him we are entering and then starting. We must of had about 1/3 of the portals down when the poor guy finally showed up and was confused as to why he couldn't enter the portal.

    Please allow me to disagree a bit based on my own experience:

    One of my Shroud-enabled characters is a fighter. The guild I'm leading for my friends (who are too nooby and casual to be accepted in one of the top-notch guilds, so I run this guild basically for them) is a level 41 guild, so we don't have a navigator (moreover, I'm the only one needing that amenity in our ship), so in order to get to the Shroud I MUST ask for a ship invite (you cannot enter the Vale if you're on a raid party, I cannot teleport, and I don't have a navigator). After joining the party, I usually need to:

    - Say "Hi, OMW" (good manners are always a must).
    - Get to the airship dock (I tend to run there while my application is being considered, but sometimes I find myself far from one, like in the Upper Necropolis).
    - Ask for a ship invite.
    - Accept the ship invite.
    - Wait at the loading screen.
    - Run to the navigator, disregarding the buffs.
    - Teleport to Meridia.
    - Wait at the loading screen.
    - Go to Aasemah and talk to him.
    - Enter the Shroud.
    - Wait at the loading screen.
    - Enter the first portal.

    Please take into account that all these necessary steps might take a bit more than 3 minutes, particularly if loading screens are slow or if party members are too lazy to send a ship invite. I've been lucky so far and I've always been able to hurry fast enough all the times I've been the 12th man and the quest started while I was OMW, but some other guys have not been lucky enough, even if they skipped the buffs and just ran as fast as they could.

    Please remember that the 12th man could be the one that makes a difference: I've seen a couple of Part 4 wipes where Harry was down to less than 5% of his HP.

    Once that's been said... yes, waiting for the last member to get all the buffs, including the dummy buff, is a pain in the rump, and I always skip buffing if I'm the last guy to join a party. But please be sensible about all the factors that lead someone to ask for a ship invite.

    I have no problems with people that need a navigator.

    It's people that waste everyone's time to hit the Sonic Resistance shrine, the +2 Charisma shrine and the +1 AC guy on their Wizard that really get to me.

    Agree wholeheartedly. Frankly, I wish they would get rid of ship buffs entirely -- everyone would still make do and there would be a whole lot less wasted time and people whining if they die or their buffs wear off.

    Is sitting 10 more mins waiting for a 12th that doesn't want to waist the time to get their ship buffs better then filling and waiting 90sec for the new person to get their handful of useful buffs?

    On the other hand, we should each be aware/respectful of others people's time. Being the last person doesn't mean that you have 3 or more mins to buff up. Get only the necessary buffs.

    I Love to zerg, and I love ship buffs... I usually play divine/arcane casters, and have always disliked passing out single target buffs, such a boring waste of time. Since ship buffs came along, I rarely need to pass out resistances to anyone, that right there is win for me! having said that, people totally need to get their buffs as soon as they join the group and then head to the quest, not play with the AH until party is full then realise they need buffs... I do hate to wait, luckily for me I usually play with other impatient people and we are most happy to kick random slow people from group.

    I love the shroud portal too! as soon as group is full go in, open portal, when the others in group comment that there are people not there yet, I tell them that is the best way I know to get them to hurry up and get in. I wish ToD and a few other raids worked this way too.

    I'm with the OP on this.

    To the other guys that just needs navigator you should bind in Meridia and death port, run into raid and get healed.

    I agree with you about the portal thing. Once group fills I do same thing. As far as giving buffs, many buffs can be gotten from house j/p. And for the people looking for most resist they can be gotten on an item and it's just plain laziness to not atleast be prepared with items if you need them.

    Meridia is IMO a pretty bad place to bind at the moment. I'd go with either the Twelve ward (close, via airship, to everything except House C, and at most two load screens to every significant public area except the Inspired Quarter), or on toons that can teleport, I'd bind in House C.
