Not illogical at all when you consider Turbine is a business. Furthermore, these are a convenience item and is in no way required to play DDO at all - just like Armor Kits, Hair Dye, and most of the rest of the items sold in the store.

Use those free TP you get every month to buy them as part of your sub.

Sadly I must agree I see this as a big waste of coding effort. You turned a potential "new item and feature" to a "DDO Store Convenience item"... a pay-per-click 'convenience' item. Really, the only people I see buying these are those on a parent's pocket book unless it's super cheap as not even my arti that has weapons, ammo, spell components, scrolls, wands, trap skill AND umd skill related items would deem this as worth paying real money every click. I just crunch/AH every other quest and that's fine. All this would do is allow me to last one more quest a round. Yes for plat. GG for $$. I agree with other that I hope to see this as House 12 reward vendor items.

So this does bring a question, what does it cost on Lamina store if it is available currently? And do people have a price point where they would get it even with TP? Since maybe, just maybe, if it was next to free, I might consider. At 10TP for a stack of 1000 (every 100 clicks costs you at least a penny, and even that I find dumb), maybe if I had some strict bag goals that I needed for certain stints. 10TP for 10k, and I might consider maintaining.

Will say that people have noted in the past that there is no bag because bag items are not hot barable, that spells cant pull from bags, etc. I'm fine with this as being an actual solution if it's provided in game.

Why are you guys getting so angry? Feedback is good (i.e. Hey, a bunch of us would buy a permanent bag, but we're smart enough to limit spending TP on temporary consumables whenever possible, so no thanks on store components), but there's no reason to get mad.

This type of negative effect from a non-directly negative project is something that Turbine has been horrendously bad at predicting in the past and apparently hasn't gotten any better at.

Long story short, Turbine can spend time on items that I'll never use, that also have no effect on my current gameplay and it can still negatively effect my perception of the company. That's not a good thing for them I'd guess.

I have no issue with a store only 'convenience item', and most people do not.

What is the issue is that more and more items are being added to the game all the time, bta, btc, more and more stuff you need to save because it is going to be useful, or necessary if you want to upgrade/craft/whatever at some point. Bigger bags, more bags, more inventory slots, more bank space - and you need it otherwise you have to start throwing stuff out that you are going to want or need at some point if you want to keep being effective.

Eight extra inventory slots is a pretty big deal. The fact that it is only ever going to be store only is clearly a marketing/accounting choice.

But the fact that every update more and more things are added to take up space in your pack is a big part of what gets people riled up I believe. Because it comes off as a deliberate attempt to force people to pay extra cash, over and above even the VIP monthly fee just to play the game effectively.

I find myself annoyed by their choice because:

    1. I feel its a shady, shameless cash grab that could seriously sucker people that aren't smart enough to actually figure this out themselves.
    2. It is a product that I was quite excited to hear about, and was greatly looking forward to, until it was made DDO store only.
    3. There are quite a few posts about the dev's not having the time/staffing to work on important bugs that have been floating around in the forums for years in some cases. Then they go and make this possibly really neat item, and relegate it to near uselessness. (opinion, I know.)

Thanks turbine for placing a theoretically useful item and shrouding it in a "gimme your credit card" context.

How about a spell component BAG? This way...wer'e not merely loaned inventory space.

Blah blah blah convenience item blah blah blah run out in a quest whatever. You took a great item and took away 90% of it's usefulness. "Never run out of spell components again! save inventory slots!" *coughcoughDDOStoreitemonlycoughcough* This is either a punchline to an awful joke, or you're letting the marketing department run amuck.

Not every blasted item needs to be in the store. Yes, the store should sell convenience. But consider this, is it worth wasting such a great idea by making it cost real-life money to cast spells? You may as well charge casters by the click to play the game. Just remember this in 6 months when Omnispell dust is the 3 Barrel Cove of the questing tab.
To be honest, I'm not bothered by the fact that this item is in the store in as much as it bothers me that they chose to implement this Omnispell nonsense as opposed to a spell component bag -- which would've been universally useful to any caster. But hey, we're just consumers and we speak louder with our wallets than with our words. So, I imagine when they audit store sales every quarter and they see their Omnispell component in the least-bought list, they'll have to either make them really cheap or take the complete loss of dev time.

Ok perhaps not illogical from Turbine's perspective it is however illogical to purchase from my perspective. I am premium not VIP just FYI and I never said this new "convenience" item was required to play... no one did that I have seen. My perspective is that these new items are really not convenient at all... you will have to replenish them, continuously... thus more money spent, you will still have to be aware of the amt of spell components your carrying unless you relish replenishing from the store in the middle of a fight? So what does it save you exactly? 8 inventory spaces maybe some encumberance if they have no or less weight than plat bought components. That is all. Thus an entirely irrational longterm purchase across multiple characters compared with simply purchasing an inventory tab per spellcaster.

I don't begrudge Turbine making money. I am all for them making money. I want them to have more of my money, but the catch is... my money for things worth paying for... and to me and apparently many others this simply isn't one of them. It could have been, there was potential... there still is potential but as is, no thank you.

Also I am not angry, not even especially disappointed. I fully expected this decision.

Was looking forward to using these components just so I didn't have to look through a vendor of badly sorted components that are mixed together randomly... oh well.

So... we were told how long ago that we would be getting ingridient bags to help with the issue that these items are made for... yet that seems to have been abandoned in favor of these things.... yet they're store only?

Yep... great move there turbine... great move. Take an item that was supposed to be a convience item for players, abandon it for a more refined idea... make the more refined idea turbine store only.... yep... another kick to the nadgers... thanks guys.

See, there is your 'problem'. These are to be a convenient way to get material comps when you run out in the Quest/Raid, NOT be your primary source of spell comps.

Nobody in their right mind would use these as primary source of material comps - if they do, I'll shake my head, utter something about a fool and his money, and thank them for spending so much cash on making my game better as I walk away...

They are in the store if you cannot remember to re-stock every so often. They will be worth having in the store, and be thankful they are there, when you DO run out mid-Quest/Raid.

The reason for the anger is - this item is a GREAT idea, as in in-game, for plat item; especially with some sort of restrictions on when you are eligible to buy it (favor reward, for example).
This item is a TERRIBLE item as a DDO Store only item that costs TP to purchase.

The difference is really, really wide - and so the disappointment in this decision to make it a DDO Store item is pretty high. Keep it in the store, but also make it available in-game for plat as a favor reward for some difficult to achieve favor level. You'd still sell them to all the people you'd sell it to now - they're not likely to achieve that favor reward before they buy this - and the power-users who aren't going to purchase a consumable in the store would *also* make sure to own the packs to get that favor, and enjoy the in-game benefits.

Kind of sad to see a potentially good addition to the game wasted, that's all.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm mad about it. I'd say a more appropriate word is disappointed. The item is out there. It could be made vendor sellable for plat in a heartbeat, but it won't. It's ddo store exclusive. To me that's a slap in the face. Not everyone else feels that way. I understand that, but my reaction is what it is. It's like I mentioned earlier. I'd have felt nothing had I never heard about this item, but because it's store exclusive, my neutral feeling about nothing has turned to a negative feeling about what I see as a great potential item rotting away in the ddo store, never to see the light of day on many toons that could make great use of it.

Another hugely annoying factor is that most people seem to think this is a really great idea, myself included. But pay $$ to cast each time?
    Come on, seriously.
Well both of course. Next I expect DDO store over shoes that prevent ladder hitching. Just put them on over your normal boots and never have to worry about that bug again.

Or maybe I'm just strange in thinking 9 different stacks of spell components/type taking up 9 inventory slots was just poor game design all along.

    2. It is a product that I was quite excited to hear about, and was greatly looking forward to, until it was made DDO store only. so you readily admit you are/were interested in this? just you found the cost to be too high, either too expensive or just not free. Well I find a nice core i7 with a big honkin pair of the latest GPUs too expensive even though i'd like to have them, but I'm not crying over spilled milk.

great fixing bugs aren't shiny new toys that may or may not get bought and bring in new streams of revenue. sure bug fixes are nice but they don't = new$.
Do I think these will be hot sellers bringing in tons of cash? no, personally I have the same opinion as you that they will not sell well as i know of no one with the means & inclination to make it a reasonable purchase.
Yet i have a hard time believing that they just sat around at turbine going , 'gee lets think of a new way to make extra work with no real return on our investment.' I am sure there is a chart/graph/spreadsheet with some sort of metric on it probably including avg. store purchase $ spent : search terms by account from the store and it shows there is a decent chance this will make money.
    Will i buy? no.
do i know anyone that will buy? no.
for no reason , are my panties all in a bunch over them offering them in the store?

    That's too bad.

Consider me another who won't waste points on these. It's sad, really. I'm sure a lot of time went into the tech of making these, and then integrating them into each and every spell in the game...just for them to sit in the store and do nothing.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the point that these rightfully become The Twelve favor rewards, as they should.

Also, I would have been happy to buy a spell components bag, especially one that equipped to Quiver slot. *That* would have been a store purchase I was willing to accept.

But this? I have five capped toons with blue bars. I'm not going to hemorrhage Turbine Points through pitiful microtransactions over 8 or less inventory slots.
