Default My Thougts on the Favored Soul

This is a wall of text. Please run away. I don't also think I made much sense, I'm just rambling my thoughts, and hopefully you can share yours. Lets talk! (I was told that I can't use Lets talk again next time because it is trademarked)

You can always see the FVS vs Cleric debate on this threads. They will list down all the Pros and Cons. FVS is better than this, cleric is good in that.

This is not one of them. (I hope)

But every time those threads appear, I always say that FVS is really more powerful than Cleric.

Wait, don't get your pitchforks yet.
    1. My main is a cleric.
    2. I don't have any fvs.
    3. It is only my opinion.

Hey, Arjiwan, you are stupid, why do say FVS is more powerful even though you don't play one. Well first of all, wait, did you just call me stupid? I thought for a second I'm in a super secret message boards.

Seriously, I played a lot with other FVS friends. Fvs Pugs. FVS elites. You can even see a guild raid in my server that has 12 fvs on it. Seriously, that is not a hipster kind of thing. FVS is really powerful.

You will see clerics that say, Pack it! Ima going to TR my cleric to an fvs. But I haven't seen, if it ever exists, I haven't seen the FVS say, this sucks, I'll TR my fvs to a cleric.

With all of that, I still play my cleric. I am still enjoying playing a cleric.

So what is my point of all of this? This is really the point of my post. Honestly:
Just now, since I am a noob, just now, I saw that the FVS has the FVS toughness enhancement. That's 30hp.
That is such a freaking big deal! My opinion of FVS > Cleric just leveled up!

But Arjiwan, it is just 30hp, it wont help. Well it does, really. A lot of times that lag monster eats up everything, or the wayward DBF spell, or the disintegrate leaves me with only 10-30hp. If I don't have that 30hp, I'll be dead, well, not dead, because I have DI on. Well, if I still have the Turn Undeads after spamming all my burst heals. But that's not the point!

    30hp. Wow.

    PS.
Please, don't argue about that FVS is p2p while cleric is not. Yes it is true of course, but it doesn't mean the cleric doesn't bring back the bacon for Turbine. I have a friend who bought Character slots just to create a cleric.
    PSS.
I am sorry my join date doesn't appease you.

FvS does provide more survivability- DR, toughness enhancements, 3x stacking elemental resists of your choice and average base reflex save help a lot in the current situation of the game. Angel of vengeance is definitively nice too.

The capstone. I still think that the free Searing light is better. Higher max caster level, few monsters in the game have light resistance and the damage can be increased by the Condemnation proc. But that's just me.

Clerics on the other hand can be more versatile and be good in both casting and melee (healing is dead given), however, that requires having a lot of gear and also, people like to specialize. And I still prefer clerics: easily customizable spell book, aura, with some healing amplification and the easily affordable monk splash are just nice.

In my opinion neither is a lot better than the other, just that FvS is currently providing what people are looking for.

    Strongly agree.

The wings and DR are fun to play with once you get tired of healing 892347923749 consecutive PUGs.

    Depends how u see that.
    I play fvs, but...

Bursts that work in antimagic and are like never-ending healing are pretty nice.
But true is now in game mine fvs can heal effectively every quest/raid.
And to top of that get wings, lower mobs saves and spell resistance, free DR, free resistances, higher saves, and bigger toughness line, and ofc boost to dmg from AoV.

So for how game looks now. its better.

True is theyre both good at what they do and a lot depends on a player.

Yes I agree with all the points you guys stated. They are extremely valid and viable.

But my point is, Favored Soul Toughness Enhancement?

    Darn it.

I guess the battle worn cleric doesn't need HP?

All classes should have toughness enhancements, and it should correspond to their BAB rate - so 4 for fighter types, 3 for rogue/cleric/monk/arti (only full BAB with wraps), and 2 for Wiz/Sorc.

I agree with your point here. FVS is providing what people are looking for, and one of them is more HP I guess.

I don't think people will stop enjoying more HP very soon.

My question now is, what is the Lore behind that the FVS has toughness enhancement. Because he is favored by the Gods? How about the Clerics undying devotion to a deity, doesn't it count?

I am not arguing that hey, the fighter has toughness enhancements and barbs has! Why not clerics? I am saying FVS has, give us some of the enhancement lines for clerics. It is not a free enhancement, we are still going to use AP for it.

I used to have a capped cleric and i have TRed him to FVS.

    but:

    1) i miss the aura/bursts
    2) I miss the versatility of spells and abilities.
    3) while my FVS seems somewhat powerful ( sirgogs soul survivor WF build) he is powerful mainly because I have the gears! and high level crafting that help me customize my gear to maximum advantage, which i didnt had on my cleric.

if i decide to take next life cleric again, it will be more powerful than the FVS.

    EDIT:
FVS capstone rocks! passive and really helpful.
cleric capsone highly situational.... and only if you remembered to use it...

FvS toughness enhancements are up to +40, they get 4 tiers.
That said, depending on the build, you may not have close to enough APs to take tier 4, let alone tier 3.

    Woah, until 4? Oh man...

Yeah, same with cleric, depending on the build, it may not have close to enough APs to take tier 3, let alone tier 2.

Yes, clerics tend to TR to FvS, not the other way round. But like Lalangamena, if I ever TR my healer again he's going back to cleric (splashed for melee). I miss the aura.
    Don't feed the trolls.
Praise the Dark Six and pass the heals to pure melees.

FvS does have more raw power and survivability, but the difference isn't really all that great. I think the main reason people perceive FvS as better is that there are fewer clueless newbie FvS since it's not F2P. FvS are more likely to be seriously comitted players who have learned the game.

I'm currently on a FvS life, but I fully intend to TR back to Clr once I get all the rest of the classes done for Completionist.

Up to 40, actually. But this is very situational. If you are well-built and well-geared, you really might not care. Buffed, my FvS has 557 HP, and I didn't take any of the class Toughness enhancements, and only 1 of the racial Toughness enhancements. If you drop 10 AP on class Toughness enhancements, that 10 AP you can't spend on better spell pen or higher Wisdom, or more smiting enhancements, or whatever. I would not give up several % of my DP DPS or even 1 point of spell pen to get 587 instead of 557 HP.

With access to class Toughness enhancements, you can save AP by taking lower tiers of both the racial and class. Three tiers of racial (human) for Cleric would be 6AP, plus the AP spent on (Greater) Adaptability - Constitution, either 2 or 4.

Four ranks of racial+class for a FvS is also 6 AP, and no need to use CON as your Adaptability enhancement if Human. 10 HP more for the same AP.

In my sig is a list of differences between the classes.

I think it depends on playstyle.

I am addicted to mu fvs to this point I dont really enjoy much playing mine other toons.
    1. I miss my wings.
    2. I miss my archon, and being shiny (*sparkling* ... had to do this ^^)
    3. I miss mana pool (yeah cleric can heal without mana with bursts, but i also use fvs to farm epics, and 3k mana to kill mobs > 2k mana to kill them, regaining mana is somewhat boring)

But well wings and archon are probably the most addictiong thing.
I dont need jump spell, i move faster, and even if im on rogue/wizard i keep pressing my wing key hoping something will happen ;p.
And archon. I come in into Subterrane, theres dark i dont see where i should jump to not fall down. Changing ecran settings for this location? Its so easier to use archon and light your way.

I have read this post about 20 times trying to figure out what you are trying to communicate to us.

Is it just that you feel FvS are better than Clerics because of a small Toughness Enhancement line?

I guess all I can say is that I have played Clerics and FvS-I love them both for very different reasons. HP being the least of them.

The best thing about cleric lives is the +1 conjuration DCs you get after TRing.

The best thing about fvs lives is laughing in EDQ2 when she can barely pass your DR.

I will miss the wings after I TR again. Faster movement through town, and beautiful synergy with Implosion: Implode one group, wing to a 2nd group and Implode them, too, with time left on the spell.

But it will sure be nice to have more spell slots again! That's something I DON'T love about being a FvS.

    It's really simple.

In the current state of the game, a Favored Soul has more SP to cast with, will have *slightly* better melee, and will be about equal if slightly less healing than a Cleric.

That's nice. Soul wins 2/3 and ties 3rd.

But here's the thing Clerics have that Souls will NEVER have.

    Versatility.
