anyways, one of the factors was that you'd have to make a sacrifice like BAB, HP, Saves, etc that would be permanently lost as long as it was bonded to you, and would accumulate as it grew in power (to represent it drawing on and intertwining with your life energy). The amounts were fairly minor, and far overshadowed by the powers of the legacy item.

Anyways, we found that because of the items power, many of us were building our characters around it, and getting other equipment to support it and the theme it invoked; my character was a monk/swordsage that studied the Desert Wind fighting style, and inhereted the Desert Wind Scimitar. I found that I was taking abilities and feats that complemented its powers, and often searched out magic items that went well with the fire/wind powers, such as rings of elemental command (fire & air) and a carpet of flying; I had a great time looking to acquire that kinda stuff.

I guess my point is that you still have the joy of acquiring stuff, its just that the focus shifts a bit. IF its implemented right.
So, in other words; you were the sword, the stuff on your character sheet was just the vessel that acquired stuff to make you better? lol, creepy.

This is already in the game. At the end of VON 1 it's the Greataxe you have to pick up. There's also an EPIC version when you do EPIC VON 1. Unfortunately, you don't get to keep it as it stays behind when you leave the quest.

You can do something neat with the weapon when you're ready to TR, though. If you talk to the druid, get ready for your TR and then run VoN1 (or Relic of a Sovereign Past if you want Tesyus) and log out while you're still in the quest with the weapon equipped.

You won't get to keep the weapon in your next life, but your MyDDO screen on that past life will forever have that special weapon equipped. You could do the same with the four special Shroud weapons or with Rainbow in the Dark as well.

Hey sweet, I'm going to try that.

    Hammer of Thunderbolts:

This +3 Large returning warhammer deals 4d6 points of damage on any hit. Further, if the wielder wears a belt of giant strength and gauntlets of ogre power and he knows that the hammer is a hammer of thunderbolts (not just a +3 warhammer), the weapon can be used to full effect: It gains a total +5 enhancement bonus, allows all belt and gauntlet bonuses to stack (only when using this weapon), and strikes dead any giant upon whom it scores a hit (Fortitude DC 20 negates the death effect but not the damage).

When hurled, on a successful attack the hammer emits a great noise, like a clap of thunder, causing all creatures within 90 feet to be stunned for 1 round (Fortitude DC 15 negates).

Yeah, there "could" be better, but basically you're talking a returning throwing weapon doing 4d6 damage, it's crit profile isn't all that great, BUT, and here is the important part, it would allow strength items on belt and glove slots to stack. Add this to a person with epic gloves/belt with strength bonuses, and we're talking! Lets see some halfling throwing spec'd fighters fighting in Gianthold with this thing!

It's a shame the devs shied away from epicing older quest chains as I was really looking forward to epic deathnips

    Lol @ the OP.

Why should I bother guessing at something that even YOU don't know the outcome of. You are just as much subject to this contest's rules as we are.

In fact, you don't even know if there ever will be a weapon that unseats the ESoS. So this "contest" can just go on for years and years... forever in fact, until DDO closes down. Meanwhile everyone else is grabbing their ESoS while you just wail here.

    Pointless much?

My prediction is for there to be a epic feat to increase crit range by +1 closed to monks fighters barbs pally. Imagine the possibilities! Hopefully the super-weapon(s) come more in passive feat styles and starts to escalate and grow upon what melee combat is seen in DDO. It would be awesome to have to job to write stuff up for fantasy worlds?? Whats the job title for that and how do I start signing up? lol.

Although I'm barred from saying anything on this particular subject. I'll put it this way, "there is definetly going to be an end to this contest and in the near future" ...just think about that statement.

Don't care much for the reward (on Ghallanda) but...

Epic Staff of light(regular SoL is just plain old vender trash):

+10,2d12 base damage,x4 crit, 14-20 crit role, holy burst, pure good, good blast, good burst, incandescence, metalaine, GEoB,GLoB,Greater Evil slaying, banishment,ML 20, have to be good aligned (no umd) and last but not least every time you hit someone evil there is a chance to cast heal on you, however every time you hit someone good there is a chance to cast harm on you.

    All on a quarterstaff.

If you have some window to future content as yet unreleased even on lamma land I hope you didn't just shoot yourself in the foot in regards to any non disclosure.

Hopefully you are merely supremely confident in an assumption to make such a statement.....

I wish you all the best of luck in guessing something that I haven't even started to design yet. I haven't yet put pen to paper to start writing up concepts for the named loot in the expansion pack.

    All in due course.

    So heres an idea...

    Whatever you do...

Please, just PLEASE make sure that Kensei's don't get shafted due to their need to specialize in a particular weapon. That is all.
Or..better yet, loosen their specialization requirements.

All I'd suggest is that you could do multiple weapons (khopesh/scimitar/longsword/etc) with the exact same damage and crit profile. That way someone who specializes, or simply wants to be a bit different than teh "You didn't take khopesh?" group isn't as penalized.
It's magic after all, so if a longsword does a x3 crit multiplier,it's not going to be the end of the DDO world. (I don't think)
