does anyone play it?
I tried this game for the free portion and I thought it was very fun but I'm not willing to pay for "packs" etc.
I think if this was done as a console or portable console game for the psp/3ds I would thoroughly enjoy it in that format. It always struck me as odd Wizards hasn't branched out in this way for either the tactics game or Magic in general similar to Yu-Gi-Oh or the now dead at least in terms of new games Duel Masters game.

Apparently there was a recent change to give everyone all of the starter decks. With all 5 colors there is a good variety of decks that can be made from just the starter free cards.
The lobby is attrocious but the gameplay itself is very solid.

I might have to check it out again some time. I still wish they'd branch out and do a console type game or port this to console or something, I enjoy card games and I would rather play Magic on my 3DS/PSP or whatever than Yu-Gi-Oh. Duel Masters was fun too i was sad to see that die in terms of video game representation.

Folks - Tactics CAN be mastered without spending a dime - it's a question of how patient you are willing to be.
Visit the Sony Online Ent (SOE) Forum page to learn the nitty-gritty details.
In a nutshell, you can eventually enter one of the tournaments after running the 1 free daily quest enough times. Once you win one or two matches (not whole tournaments - just individual matches) you earn a couple Booster Packs of Cards - save those (don't open them) and then enter your first "Draft" tournament - again read the forum for details...
By rinsing and repeating, you will pick up momentum without ever needing to pay a single real dollar![]()
If you don't pay a dime you earn 2 gold a day from the daily. The tournament you refer to is the bracket tournament and it costs 20g to enter, you get nothing if you lose at round 1. 1 booster if you lose at round 2 and 2? boosters if you win.
Your account starts with 20g. So that is effectively 1 "free" entry. Since set 2 is out some of those commons blow away the set 1 commons your starter decks come with. For about 10g you can buy enough set 2 commons to make a starter deck much better which in turn greatly increases your chances of making it to round 2 of a bracket tournament.
I just started playing and haven't done any drafts yet but it appears that they cost a set 2 booster to enter. You can't get set 2 boosters as prizes in the bracket, maybe if you win, im not sure.
The friends list functionality is atrocious but if anyone from ddo wants to join up and game my toon name there is "Whanker" so feel free to add me.
Haven't you heard of Magic on the consoles (and PC) ? Apparently, it's quite popular:

I do like duel of the planeswalkers finally a version of the game on a pc/console i enjoy this game although the deck customization is rather low at least in the version i played you only gain new cards for winning and there is no concept of packs or build your own deck etc. It is definitely a great way to teach people how to play magic as well.
still i think a game like this should be done with less "shiny" graphics and be put on a portable console such as the 3ds or psp or psvita.
