Suggestion for Dragonmark feats with new enhancements this summer

I had seen a dev post that said that one of the options you are considering for this summer's big enhancement revamp is making Dragonmark feats into a single feat with AP spent to get the second and third feat's abilities. I think that's a great idea and I think it will make Dragonmarks attractive while still not making them "must haves" for any character.

If that happens, then it is likely that characters with the second and third Dragonmarks will get a feat respec token. Being able to respec those feats will be really nice and I am sure that those characters will appreciate the opportunity to dump the dead feats. If the third Dragonmark feat (which would then be a dead feat) still requires the second Dragonmark feat, then you will have to change the third Dragonmark feat first and only then will you be able to change the second Dragonmark feat. That means you won't be able to trade Dragonmark 2 and Dragonmark 3 for Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration, for instance. You would have to trade Dragonmark 3 for a placeholder feat, then trade Dragonmark 2 for Spell Penetration and then finally trade the placeholder feat again for Greater Spell Penetration.

So, here is my suggestion. If you do decide to eliminate the second and third Dragonmark feats, please also make the third Dragonmark feat not require the second Dragonmark feat as a prereq. It won't matter for any new characters because they won't be able to take the second or third Dragonmark feat, but it will make feat respec much easier for people who had taken those feats in the past.


TL;DR version: if you eliminate Dragonmark 2 and Dragonmark 3, please get rid of the Dragonmark 2 prereq on Dragonmark 3 as part of the process.

I can definitely see that being a problem. I hope the devs realize this and take appropriate action.

I'm thinking the easiest solution would be to just allow those characters to rebuild all of their feats. This would avoid all those messy feat respec problems. Of course, then you would have people taking dragonmark feats before the change just so they can respec their entire feat line...

Every time they make fundamental changes to the game, everyone should get a btc lesser heart of wood. I can see the servers crashing when everyone hits the boat 10minutes after they come up though.... haha

I've though about a dragonmarked halfling archmage but the feats required kind of annoy me. If this change happens then I'll be considering it a lot more.

Definately for a wiz life on a TR project. Will let me see how it plays. Probably do it anyway for a TR life even if the change doesn't go through but I can see it being more viable at end game if it doesn't take the extra feats.

Maybe a item similar to how a blood of dragons works for sorcerer spells would be good to have for these types of situations.

Perhaps an item similiar to blood of dragons that works on feats could be given to each character this summer?

It could also be a rare drop item in the game.

Fred doesn't take into account what level you first took the feat, only the kind of feat that was taken (I.E. Monk bonus feat, fighter bonus feat, wiz bonus feat, Dilettante).

But Fred won't let you get rid of a feat that is a pre-req for another feat that you have. He doesn't care that you took Dragonmark 2 at a lower level than Dragonmark 3, but he won't let you get rid of Dragonmark 2 until Dragonmark 3 is gone.

I agree that it's working as intended and it does make sense for feats that are still active and useful. But if the Dragnomark 2 and Dragonmark 3 feats are eliminated, it would be nice if they could turn off Dragonmark 2 as a pre-req for Dragonmark 3 so that you can respec those two feats in a more useful order. Be more work for the devs to do so and likely cause more problems and I still dont ever remember a dev saying anything about it just several players including myself saying it would be a good idea.
