+11/13/15 to spot/search/disable device/open lock without any ml is pritty op in my book.
Same goes for +4/5 for deflection/resistance.

A very good point, and Turbine proved this is the normal operating procedure as is evident by the UMD increase on Vendor Purchased Artificer Scrolls AND the Helf Artificer Improved Dilletante Enhancement Line that progresses at a rate of 1,2,3,4 whereas ALL THE OTHER IMPROVED DILLETANTE ENHANCEMENT LINES FOR EVERY OTHER HELF DILLE PROGRESSES AT 1,4,7 AND 10.
Business practices like these usually go over LIKE A TURB(ine) IN THE PUNCHBOWL LMAO
The only ring I wanted was 30% striding.
so as to get through the early levels of TR with less schlumping. Got it early and quit farming.
If you needed skill rings for your rogue, reroll.
I got the ring, but I still hope it's a retro nerf. Not fair to newbies that they can't get the good gear.
I understand your point and stance on this, but why wait so long to fix it? You honestly don't believe it was until many people (naive) or not purchased the pack? If the rings were that OP, Turbine could, would and should have fixed them earlier.
I cant complain as I bought the pack cheap and have a whole array of different rings. It was a value for me even if it is nerfed, but it is still shady IMO.
And yes the only real ring that I use all the time is striding. It sucks with no striding running thru Kortos

But you can Cannith craft +5 prot/res on a level 7 ring already. +13 skill items crafted as low as level 9. You can put heavy fort on a belt (but not a ring) at level 7 too. If someone was lucky enough to pull a no ML 30% striding ring that is indeed one item you can't craft at all currently - you could put striding 20% on a level 5 ring though, and the mire set will get you 30% striding at level 7 anyway, if you want it.
I maintain these were well known by Turbine and willfully included as ML0 (again, as this is the third pack they've dropped from) - to serve as an unadvertised incentive to early buyers and VIPs. I don't have a problem with that at all, none of their marketing included language about cool twink rings. It was a nice surprise and some non-gamebreaking convenience loot for that segment of their customers who tend to generate more revenue: gamers with multi-TRs and/or alt-itis.
I will really be shocked if they actually change the items themselves rather than just turn off the spigot (and perhaps reopen it in a future P2P pack).
My complaint isn't about losing twink power I need, my complaint is about losing fun. It's fun when you approach the final reward guy, not sure what shiny surprise awaits you. It's fun, and it's not OP because they're only useful at low levels, and at those low levels TRs are already far more overpowered than these rings could ever help to approach anyway.
Seriously, you guys point to +5 resistance/protection?! That would take two of these rings, and would still be weaker than the already mentioned +6 to both in one slot on level 3 from a legitimately Cannith crafted item.
Trapmonkey skill gear? Show me the trap below level 9 (at 9+ you can craft better than these rings) that a maxed-skill trapmonkey with cannith crafted gear (+5 skill @ ML1, +10 skill @ ML5) can't bypass in their sleep and I'll agree the rings are overpowered.
Are they working as intended? No.
are they overpowered? Yes.
does it matter? Not really.
will it ruin the fun of taking the end reward from the chain? Yes.
would I buy the pack w/o these rings? Yes, on sale.
would I recommend this pack to others w/o these rings? No.
would I recommend this pack with the rings? Yes.
What else ya wanna know?
Your right on the TR, your right on the excitement that you get for a possible nice end reward, your even right that it is possible to get the same if not better if you choose the yellow path and decide to do some crafting.
However I've seen countless of rogues go "Hey, I'm an assasin!" while blowing up trapboxes in WW and/or STK.
And things useable at level 7 is not the same as being able to use something while getting off the boat, that's about a third of your characters life.
Still, with the new 3000 favor reward I don't see why these no ml rings are an issue.
Ha, maybe a selection of no ml rings would be a nice favor reward. Knowing the developers they'll probably make them BTC. Can you spot the trap there?
It's a third of a character's levels, not life. Many people stay at cap much longer than it took them to get there, but even if you delete a character the moment you hit 20, getting to level 7 is only around 10% of a character's first life. Even less for TRs. (7.8% for a second life, 6.6% for third or more.)
I'm not an MMO designer, and have never worked for one, but if I were them I'd probably choose NOT to retroactively nerf the rings, even if I could do it.
I know that since I've started playing, I've occasionally heard of grandfathered items with ML that is really low compared to a similarly powered item available in the game now. But it's never caused me to reconsider playing the game just because some toons who have been around for a few years have something i can no longer get, and I haven't heard many other people complaining very loudly about it either.
Because it's harder to miss what you never had. I don't sit around complaining that I don't have access to cool gear from 3 years ago, or that nerfed weapon abilities/builds worked the way they used to, because I was never here for them in the first place, so who cares? I adapted to the game that was presented to me when i showed up. In the end, it's just a bunch or math equations with an interface and a chat server, so who cares if we're adding 1+4, or 25+100?
However, I have read several threads about retroactive nerfs that have really ****ed people off, and caused them the threaten to stop playing. How many of them make good on the threat is impossible for ME to say, but it seems like an obvious choice from a marketing/business standpoint (Turbine's MAIN concern, which is only natural) to NOT retroactively nerf the rings. I know that I will seriously reconsider my TR plans if those rings are all of a sudden junk.
The new players they wish to attract will not miss them, because they never had them, and the older players who worked so hard to get them, will get to keep them. The older players will want to continue spending money to True Reincarnate, because that's most of the fun of TR in the first place. It's fun to come up strong through the levels, and for all the time and points invested, you're lucky to still have them here wanting to repeat the same content over and over.
Besides, people DO move on, and most older players make friendships with people they run with often, and the rings can't be traded to other accounts, so as time goes on the rings have less and less of an impact on the new player's gaming environment anyhow.
Yes, it is.
However, there is a MASSIVE difference between overpowered, and unbalancing.
I couldn't give a tarhooty if something is "overpowered". 20hp more at level 1 or +2 stat over a bull/bears etc pot? Overpowered compared to what...being NAKED? Yea, but at low levels being naked and having slightly better AC doesn't matter much.
+4 resistance, +10 or more skill rings...whoopie. Those levels go by SO fast that it doesn't really MATTER. And it's not like it's an incredibly fast chain to farm, or even a guarantee that good rings will drop...this isn't a loot pez dispenser.
Unbalancing...people clicking and farming DOZENS of +3 tomes, selling knock wands from cove and plat capping every character you have, entire servers sharing BTA items...people hawking SoS shards in trade channels...
those need a cutoff. Right away. Because they unbalance the game. They encourage people NOT to run content! Run a VOD? Nah, platcapped off of cove then bought all my +3 tomes. Run an Evon6? Nah, got my SoS shard, have never even ran EVON6.
Not these rings, they are not unbalancing in any major way. And they encourage people to actually DO the content! If you don't have them, you can still EASILY level. If you do, you can save some time or maybe push your hp total to 100 at level 2 instead of level4, neither of which is needed. Or maybe be lazy on trapping equipment for the first few levels.
Overpowered? A bit
Unbalancing? Not really, and THAT is what really matters.
My, aren't you the font of all knowledge.
The +skill rings are perfect for people that take 1 level of rogue then take their levels in their actual class like fighter or barbarian which don't get the skill points to keep spot, search and disable useful in level 7 elite quests without resorting to large guild augment slot items (pain in the butt) and heroism potions or masterful crafted skill items (bigger pain in the butt if you're not a crafter). Spot when you've dump stated wis, search/disable when you've only put the left over points into int after maxing str and con, and getting dex high enough for twf... yeah.
Not barbs, paladins or monks. 3 of the jobs that actually care about AC at that level since they probably aren't one-shotting everything before it gets to them with a repeater or a spell.
