Default Monk tank vs. Fighter tank: Which is best?

Which tank reigns supreme the monk tank in full gear or the stalwart traditional tank?

Today, or after the next round of nerf... er, I mean, balancing?

Eh. SD fighter has better hp, better threat amp, potentially better dr (if using a shield). But monk generally gonna be better dps while tanking. Alternately, 12/8 or 8/12 fighter/monk can also work well as a tank. Not as good dr, but can combine it with the hp boost without sacrificing dps to a shield and mix like that has higher threat amp then either of the two if they go pure.

One of the better tanks I've worked with is a 12monk/6fighter/2arti (self scroll heal for 350ish).

    Lot's of possibilities.

Comparing pure 20 to pure 20, the monk will have more dps but fighter will have more threat to balance that out.

They can both get great AC. The monk can get shadowfade for -25% hits however.

Think with double shield mastery the fighter has more % DR, but it's pretty close.

If the raid goes to hell the fighter turtles up better.

The monk probably has better healing amp, but the stalwart almost certainly has more total hp.

But the monk also has evasion and generally the reflex save to make it useful.

    Both are pretty solid.

Personally I would go monk. The insane dps from alchemical wraps combined with higher amp, evasion, shadowfade, abundent step and all those other juicy ki abilities makes for a much better soloist and is probably much more fun in general than simply a high threat, high AC, low-medium dps meatbag.

Monks are tank for easy bosses on low difficulties. When you start tanking something real like epic Lord of Blades, it's surviving on a monk for 30 minutes with a damage output near 0 (since u have to block), thus no holding, and turning, no ability to get it back => no tanking.
