Although to be honest, if DDO existed when I was in college, I would have probably flunked out.
My senior year, my roommate got Civilization on his PC, and I did end up playing that until dawn a couple of times.

at a avg of $8.30 a mounth i guess im a idiot for paying the 99.99 for a year deal...
let me see here i do play way to much of around 100 hous a mounth or so
that comes out to about 12 hours of entertainment per $1 spent or 8 cents hour.
and have all the perks i want in game and spend rest my free time doing other things but avg 3 hours a night on gamming dont leave for much room other free time.. alot other times isnt free time
so lets figure that out 3 hours x 8 cents comes to lets see here 24 cents per a gaming session with out having to grind TP to do the stuff i actualy want to do in game.... otherwise then id only get about 10 min of quality gaming time while other 2 horus 50 min was spent grinding tp...
what could i have spent in 3 hours by going out to the movies...
$10 gas (live 20 mile out)
15 ticket
10 for snacks
-------------------------
$35 for 3 hours of movie entertainment
.24 vip and play ddo
or
.09 (that 25 spent on TP per year) + avg out to over 2 of the 3 hours grinding out more TP for net gain of 1 hour of entertainment
=====================
Im willing to spend the xtra 13 cents per 3 hour gaming session so i can enjoy the entire 3 hours....
dont seem very wise to net a savings of 30 cents gringing TP for 2 hours
and your calling who a idiot? France must be dealing with hard times that one would grind tp for 2 hours to save 30 cents....
oh and if you do spend more then 100 hours a mounth playing DDO your net saving per hour are even smaller which make even less sence to not be VIP.

It's not as simple as that to get the entire game for $50.
First of all, you'd have to get a really good deal on the points you spend. Like, you buy points when they're on sale plus they do another one of those "spend 2k points get 25% off" things.
Second, you'd have to buy things only when they're on sale, which in some cases is never, or like once every 5 years or something inane like that. I just gave up waiting for gianthold to go on sale and just forked over the 1k tp it costs.
Third, with just $50 you might be able to get a ton of packs you want, but you sure as heck aren't getting all of them. $50 is more appropriate of a figure back when premium had just come out, and even then that's stretching it.
And of course, with just $50 you aren't getting any races or classes or any other features like shared bank, etc. etc.
This is coming from a guy who's dropped $100 + tax as a premium player and only when things were on sale and whatnot. I have pretty much all I want now (all packs, all account features) but "$100 for the core stuff I wanted but only because I bought stuff on sale" is a far cry from "$50 and get the whole game".
as mentioned before, VIP is far cheaper entertainment than lots of other things i can think about
also the ciggy thing: yep i even smoke the same amount a day or sometimes more than VIP takes for a month^^
i pay willingly since its first release at all - on EU servers even about 30-50% more/month - never regretted
and hell YES, i would pay even more monthly fee!

here's to another big boohoohoo-i-am-a-screwed-VIP topic. You were there when it happened for 2.5 years you say... and you blame Turbine?!
That is some proper externalizing the cognitive dissonance if i've ever seen it
