I just want a Shroud Blades pet and one of these

As a single player with a single opinion, I agree with you. I am a function over fashion person.
However...
As a business, this game doesnt make money off one type of crowd. Turbine needs to cater to those people who want to sit in the pixelated tavern and show off their new puppy in RP just like they have to cater to those of us who want new raid bosses to beat up so we can take their loot. Every single play style is money in the bank for them, and all they need to do is find different ways to leverage game features to cater to those different playstyles.
As for Valve, if they are making that paper selling digital hats, the only misgiving I have about that is that I didnt think of it first, heh.
While these pets in themselves are a nice touch, and does not bother me at all there is one issue that does bother me.
LAG!
And that bothers everyone, all the time.
I wish they had beaten the lag monster before they introduce something like this. Because this will only increase server lag, increase the amount of data sent to and from players, and increase graphics lag in crowded instances.
I think to introduce pets in the current state of the game is the wrong thing to do
If the pets make noise now or in the future, can we get a UI option to turn that sound off? It would add as much aural clutter to the game as the pet vitals added to the UI bar a few updates ago. As far as lag goes, I'd like to be able to turn off the ability to even see other people's cosmetic pets as well. Less bandwidth wasted and less junk for my video card to draw.
I fully expect to see a kobold pet - there will be huge demand for them, and money is money. However, if I want to hear kobolds talking, I'll go run the challenges, where I can overload on kobolds. I would be horrified by the prospect of being unable to escape listening to a kobold soundtrack in every quest in the game, as the pet pads along behind another player, repeating their short list of catch-phrases ad nauseum.
I love the kobolds by the way, but all things in moderation.
While you're at it, can we turn off the pewpewpew sound on other people's weapons? It was bad enough when only the odd repeater rogue used those things, but with artificers, it can be overpowering at times.
Wow, yes! Maybe headgear called "mufflers" with pink furry bits.
I bought artificer a while back. It is interesting to play but I can't seem to do so for long periods of time because that noise drives me crazy. The pewpewpew, the reloading, the barks, the dog's mechanical springing sounds, and most of all runearm recharging. How am I supposed to enjoy hearing the lament and agony of my enemies?
Do what I say, don't do what I do!

This just proves that no matter what it is people will find a way or reason to be irate.

Just sayin.
*natch*
Are they blue? Can I kill them... can I.... please can I? I would stab them and slash them and bash them and call them George. Ya gotta let me kill them, ya gotta... you just gotta. If... if you don't let me kill them they'll breed and then there'll be more so... so you gotta kill them. Can I? Please, can I?
Um, err, sorry. Those little blue b-tards just really get under my skin and make me want to strangle small woodland creatures.
