Without the XP/Loot part. Sorry. Guess I just nerfed a feature.

I also don't have to put up with nonstop trades and chat involving hats and vast hordes of mostly useless weapons and other items.

As for TF2 itself. The game started out as a great concept and very fun. What it has evolved into (or I should say devolved into) is a dress-up game with occasional bouts of gunfire by people that haven't yet realized Team Fortress 2 is no longer a FPS shooter. Seriously, the game's primary function is now to hoard cosmetic items to use as virtual currency for more cosmetic items that fulfill absolutely no function in any other respect. What ever happened to, I don't know, actually shooting things and blowing stuff up? We never got Episode 3 of Half-Life, and no Half-Life 3 so far... and why? Because Valve is making too much freaking money from people buying DIGITAL HATS to be bothered with making actual video games!

So yes.. I am very well into this 'humbug' that you mention.

    P.S. I apologize for the semi-off topic-ness, but I couldn't help it.
As a single player with a single opinion, I agree with you. I am a function over fashion person.

    However...

As a business, this game doesnt make money off one type of crowd. Turbine needs to cater to those people who want to sit in the pixelated tavern and show off their new puppy in RP just like they have to cater to those of us who want new raid bosses to beat up so we can take their loot. Every single play style is money in the bank for them, and all they need to do is find different ways to leverage game features to cater to those different playstyles.

As for Valve, if they are making that paper selling digital hats, the only misgiving I have about that is that I didnt think of it first, heh.

Cool, replace the hamsters or gerbils you have that run the server wheels with a host of these things and hey presto, lag gone!
Hello, hope all is well. And if it isn't, sorry about that.

While these pets in themselves are a nice touch, and does not bother me at all there is one issue that does bother me.

    LAG!

And that bothers everyone, all the time.

I wish they had beaten the lag monster before they introduce something like this. Because this will only increase server lag, increase the amount of data sent to and from players, and increase graphics lag in crowded instances.

I think to introduce pets in the current state of the game is the wrong thing to do

If the pets make noise now or in the future, can we get a UI option to turn that sound off? It would add as much aural clutter to the game as the pet vitals added to the UI bar a few updates ago. As far as lag goes, I'd like to be able to turn off the ability to even see other people's cosmetic pets as well. Less bandwidth wasted and less junk for my video card to draw.

I fully expect to see a kobold pet - there will be huge demand for them, and money is money. However, if I want to hear kobolds talking, I'll go run the challenges, where I can overload on kobolds. I would be horrified by the prospect of being unable to escape listening to a kobold soundtrack in every quest in the game, as the pet pads along behind another player, repeating their short list of catch-phrases ad nauseum.

I love the kobolds by the way, but all things in moderation.

While you're at it, can we turn off the pewpewpew sound on other people's weapons? It was bad enough when only the odd repeater rogue used those things, but with artificers, it can be overpowering at times.

Wow, yes! Maybe headgear called "mufflers" with pink furry bits.

I bought artificer a while back. It is interesting to play but I can't seem to do so for long periods of time because that noise drives me crazy. The pewpewpew, the reloading, the barks, the dog's mechanical springing sounds, and most of all runearm recharging. How am I supposed to enjoy hearing the lament and agony of my enemies?

Infact I hope we can have useless characters as pets. I have a Pally fully epic equipped with 3 lifes under the last that I don't play anymore cause She is useless...

Ps. Thinking to reincarnate in something else now we can mantain tomes (She used 4 +4 and 2 +3)...

Gah! Don't say that, it would mean all of my characters would be pets, they're all about as useful as a potent fart in a stiff breeze.
Hello, hope all is well. And if it isn't, sorry about that.

An artist knows that any picture painted with only dark colors or only light colors will be bland.

Tis in the mixing of light and dark that constrast and composition is born...

Um, err, sorry. Those little blue b-tards just really get under my skin and make me want to strangle small woodland creatures.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm somewhat supportive of this kind of thing in DDO. Even suggested a mini-gelatinous cube as a pet in a different thread because I'm boring enough to think that would be neat. It would kinda.. sit there.. and maybe wobble.
