    hmmm,
    disagree with ya mate.
looking at the pet in the first pic (maybe it's an angle thing), it doesn't look all cute and cuddly to me.
looks more like it's gettin' ready to bite my ankle.

the second pic skews the perception quite a bit. there is a resemblance, maybe it's cause they are
both generally the same breed and white.

as others said, i would like the cosmetic pets to not be useful in dungeons and would prefer an
option to turn them off so my computer doesn't have to keep track of 50 characters in an instance and
49 pets (or 4900 pets if they hang out at doors like the artificer pets do).

Oh, yeah Kung-Fu Panda Monk, that's what we need!

Seriously, though if they want to make money, not only are they going to put this stuff in, they are also going to add an option to turn off the pets...at a price, in the DDO Store (included free with P2P).

Don't talk to me about realism, you're posting in a fantasy role-playing game forum.

That is probably partly true. If they don't fight and/or cannot be commanded to take a particular action that makes them different. If they can be summoned in addition to a "companion", then that makes them different also. Every way that they are different not only requires extra coding, but provides fun new ways for bugs to creep in.

    Something else to consider.

There are "tricks" they can do at some point. Maybe we need to raise them to go from cute to deadly?

It would be interesting to put on the market "deadly" pets because we have taken up a job as an "animal trainer" to help augment our "earnings".

    Unhappy

Don't cutify ddo, but similarly less (preferably no) use of upper class twits as DM's. That House C guy is truly dreadful.

I'm not overly interested in these things myself. What I'm hoping for is a Dev pet... Can you imagine being able to call out your little 404error or Kookie at any time and have them drop loads of xp, plat and epic gear? That would be a pet worth having...

    Cmom devs, Brocolli or Beholder?
That's why I'm here, all other MMO's looked like Candy Land or any type of crappy Lego game.
I say Beholder. Though I recognize there is base a players that don't agree with me, it's just my opinion.

Keep in mind guys they've increased the dev team to more than 3 times the size it was last year and are dedicating several patches to just bug fixes this year. This isn't taking any dev time away from the game there are teams dedicated to Eberron content, Forgotten Realms content, bug fixes, items, cosmetics, game engine overhauls etc...

Not everybody in real life wears an ugly as sin hat.. or clothes.. or whatever else. Hell, nobody I hang around does. Those that I do see, I only see briefly. I don't have to put up with seeing it for countless hours on end like I do when playing TF2. I also don't have to put up with nonstop trades and chat involving hats and vast hordes of mostly useless weapons and other items.

As for TF2 itself. The game started out as a great concept and very fun. What it has evolved into (or I should say devolved into) is a dress-up game with occasional bouts of gunfire by people that haven't yet realized Team Fortress 2 is no longer a FPS shooter. Seriously, the game's primary function is now to hoard cosmetic items to use as virtual currency for more cosmetic items that fulfill absolutely no function in any other respect. What ever happened to, I don't know, actually shooting things and blowing stuff up? We never got Episode 3 of Half-Life, and no Half-Life 3 so far... and why? Because Valve is making too much freaking money from people buying DIGITAL HATS to be bothered with making actual video games!

So yes.. I am very well into this 'humbug' that you mention.

    P.S. I apologize for the semi-off topic-ness, but I couldn't help it.

No, an option for turning this 'unimportant to the game and is actually meaningless' type of thing off will never come. You'll just have to put up with seeing all of it.. then when you say something negative about it, get told that it means nothing! Just ignore it! Awww, look at the poor bald Heavy who doesn't have a hat to cover his head! (Despite my purposely deleting/giving away every hat I ever found)
    *eyeroll*
Yup, at one time I had 3 TF2 servers that were usually packed and played the original TF since the quake mod came out. The whole hat and mask thing is a little nuts but it does make money. As for pet design, in general I'm ok with a mix ranging from semi-cute to scary to amusing (Kobolds). Just nothing cartoonish or way cute, like doe eyed fuzzy unicorns with trailing rainbow glitter clouds.

You're taking your hyperbole to a crazy level. People are still playing the game. You may view their hoarding or farming of cosmetic items as ridiculous (and I'd agree), you may also not like the way the gameplay has changed due to the introduction of non-cosmetic, i.e., actually functional items, but the part of your rant about the game no longer being a shooter is ridiculous.

Good. Make it happen then. I’m currently stuck at level 18 on a paladin incarnation and could *really* use 840,000XP so I could move onto an incarnation that doesn’t suck.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

I remember in a PnP campaign i once played as a chaotic neutral druid, who amused himself by staying shapeshifted as a raven who the sorcerer (int & wisdom were very, very dumped) thought was his familiar.... does this mean that various devs etc. might be able to drop in & take control of pets, animal companions etc. & have giggles in the same kind of way?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Any chance we can get little Arraetrikos as a pet after we beat TOD?
