    Default Please don't "cutify" DDO...

Ok, so maybe I'll have to endure some neg rep but please...

When I saw the picts for the new pets I was really disturbed and I have to echo the concerns other people have voiced, I mean look at this:

    I see this:

Maybe we can even get our pets voiced by John Travolta or Miley Cyrus!

I don't care if it generates revenue, it ruins the D&D atmosphere. What's next? Pink pig tails and mini skirts? When I hear people clamor for baby unicorns I get really distressed... Really? This is what you want? Maybe DDO isn't my game anymore... *sigh*

*shrug* They won't be in Dungeons so you'll be able to happily ignore them in the public instances with 99% of what is already there.

Is there any chance you can do a cross licensing deal with WOTC and we can get Pokemon dress up kits?

People moan and complain when the game requires store purchases to play, they scream "Pay to Win!" and whine.....and then in the next topic they tell all the new players how pointless VIP is and how everybody should go Premium and be done with it.

In the end, Turbine needs income. It's either cosmetic stuff, which tends to be cutesy, or its game affecting stuff. Pick.

I just want content, and I'll gladly pay for it. None of the rest of this *censored*.

At least put a /cutestuff off? Then I'm onboard. People can walk around with their pink kitties and I don't have to see it.

Oh how I wished things actually worked that way! I'd probably still be playing TF2 on occasion instead of.. uhm.. not. I'm one of those who was in with a small group of players who were clamoring for an option to turn hats off so we didn't have to see whatever ugly as sin hat everyone was wearing.

No, an option for turning this 'unimportant to the game and is actually meaningless' type of thing off will never come. You'll just have to put up with seeing all of it.. then when you say something negative about it, get told that it means nothing! Just ignore it! Awww, look at the poor bald Heavy who doesn't have a hat to cover his head! (Despite my purposely deleting/giving away every hat I ever found)

If humbug like ugly hats keeps you from playing a game you otherwise enjoyed then I wonder how you function in real life.

Not everybody in real life wears an ugly as sin hat.. or clothes.. or whatever else. Hell, nobody I hang around does. Those that I do see, I only see briefly. I don't have to put up with seeing it for countless hours on end like I do when playing TF2. I also don't have to put up with nonstop trades and chat involving hats and vast hordes of mostly useless weapons and other items.

As for TF2 itself. The game started out as a great concept and very fun. What it has evolved into (or I should say devolved into) is a dress-up game with occasional bouts of gunfire by people that haven't yet realized Team Fortress 2 is no longer a FPS shooter. Seriously, the game's primary function is now to hoard cosmetic items to use as virtual currency for more cosmetic items that fulfill absolutely no function in any other respect. What ever happened to, I don't know, actually shooting things and blowing stuff up? We never got Episode 3 of Half-Life, and no Half-Life 3 so far... and why? Because Valve is making too much freaking money from people buying DIGITAL HATS to be bothered with making actual video games!

So yes.. I am very well into this 'humbug' that you mention.

    P.S. I apologize for the semi-off topic-ness, but I couldn't help it.

Yup, at one time I had 3 TF2 servers that were usually packed and played the original TF since the quake mod came out. The whole hat and mask thing is a little nuts but it does make money. As for pet design, in general I'm ok with a mix ranging from semi-cute to scary to amusing (Kobolds). Just nothing cartoonish or way cute, like doe eyed fuzzy unicorns with trailing rainbow glitter clouds.

Your definition of content does not equal everyones definition of content including those that analyze the bottom line.

I'm not angry, just disappointed. As someone said, one of the the draws of this MMO to me was "Beholders, not Broccoli."

Your right, my definition of content doesn't equal everyone's definition. My definition is more quests, more story, more raids.

And maybe serious MMOs aren't profitable. So I'm glad the devs will keep their jobs and people can have their cutsie stuff just like in every other MMO.

I'll go back to Skyrim for now, and maybe I'll give Guild Wars 2 a try when its released, I never played the first one but people seem excited about it, and I don't see any baby unicorns on the website.

I can't say I haven't gotten my money's worth from DDO, I have, so I'm not angry or bitter, just disappointed the turn the game has taken. Kinda like when your favorite band goes pop and starts sounding like every other band on the radio, it's a bummer, but you know, good for them, at least they are making a living at music.

I understand the point and his disappointment, think that's one of the reasons I never liked WoW, way too cartoony and cutsie poo. I always liked the darker graphics of DDO, although some of the weapon designs and armours etc.?? Gah.
Hello, hope all is well. And if it isn't, sorry about that.

You clearly have other issues in this game then 3 pets on a test server. Otherwise, quitting makes no sense to me. Each their own. I don't invalidate a game I like simply simply because one feature (pending at that) that doesn't affect gameplay isn't my cup of tea. Otherwise, I'm sure every game would tick me off.

This. They can either start selling +10 tomes of every item, Shards of Power, FRDS, epic scrolls, shards and seals and LDS, or they can sell cosmetics. I willingly buy cosmetics, like the ones in the pictures, to support turbine and cause they're cool. And will quit the game if they keep up with the Pay2Win model. So I pick cosmetics every time

There is a miscommunication between Players voices and Developer's ears.

Cosmetic pets is a WOW thing, DDO seems to be just getting their feet wet and are still years behind when it comes to gamer desired Cosmetics.

Rangers asked for companions, it was passed over, seemingly deemed to be more trouble than its worth...
-I could see this since the cost and time invested didn't seem justified..

Artificers show up with pet sidekicks and the Rangers( the ones that were still around and didnt re-roll or TR after the whole nerf to the class) were excited, If Arties got pets then given time they would be able to get their wolf,panther,spider...whatever sidekick... Instead they will see cosmetic cutie pets.. keep fingers crossed maybe in time the real companion will become available...

Many have asked for the ability to tweak current characters without having to TR to change hair styles, looks, armour colours.. Changes to the Stores and AH so you can actually preview item appearance..

a Cosmetic shop where you can spend hours creating that perfect custom look regardless of the armour, Shield or Weapon you are actually wearing. Who would spend more money than those that spend hours in a boutique customizing every aspect of their outfits.

A place where you can zoom in and rotate views, not some crappy blurry mirror in the back of a dirty weapons shop. The ability to select a base look, patterns, colours, over/underlays, crests.
Things like Pink Armour with a Red Rose Crest, Black Armour with a flaming skull, or whatever...
These would become actual permanent changes to the item, which could then be given, sold, AH..

If you build it they will come.

Wizards and Sorcs have familiars, Rangers and Druids have animal companions, Artificers have homunculus, and parties have halfling and gnome members. Cute companions have always been a part of Dungeons and dragons.

I see this as the first stage in the games evolution for animal companions and familiars being added so I welcome it.

We've only seen 3 companions on live. A panther, a winter wolf, and a black spider. The spider is creepy and in no way cute. When I first saw a dev run by with it out of the corner of my eye I thought a real spider was running across my monitor and almost hit it lol. I expect a nice mix of scary and cute companions.

I would like this for most of the hideously dressed players in game now.
