    Default help with fps

    I am using a new HP dv6-6135dx laptop a8-3500m 6gb ram 640GB hd.
running win 7 64. I used laptop other lower spec than this one and never had any fps lag. I am using the standare res version of the game, latest drivers and running on directx 9
I have searched the forum and tried everything i found and nothing had helped, so hoping someone can offer me some other suggestions. There is nothing else installed on this new laptop but the game.
only thing different is the other laptops which i still use are all window XP. this is the only one on win 7 64.

problem in game does not matter in quest or town my fps is around 35 standing still. during combat fps sometimes will drop below 10 and the game will start to lag. Sometimes even changing my weapons via the hotbar will cause this.

    things I tried
    1) It is not an internet problem as I tired wired and wireless I have verison FIOS so its not speed issue.
    2) there is nothing running in the back ground in fact while the game is running I checked my CPU load and it is only at 30%
    3) under Graphics detect optimal setting on first try it will set everything to Ultra high. (fps mid 30s)
    4) I changed the adv graphics everything to medium and low, Texture low, and trilinear with anisotropic filter at 1, lighting unchecked, disabled reflections, shadow, video post effects. Player mesh combining is checked. sync with refresh rate checked. Troubleshoot engine speed set to med, and max rate to 55 and still i get the same fps (mid30s)
    5) I tried the game in direct 9,10,11 and back to 9 all with the same result.
I do not believe it is a hardware issue as this laptop should be more than enough to handle this game.
I think it got to do with the GPU or win 7 64?
Open to any help or suggestions.

I would try using Gamebooster, that tends to help me some. And I consider your fps rate great there. My crappy laptop gives me about 10-15 fps on average playing this game, and I manage pretty well with, although I get a lot of people asking how I can do that.

I'd be happy for any suggestions here too, but I doubt anything will help me much, lol.

    Try Gamebooster though, it's handy.

    Cons
Sluggish productivity performance. No Bluetooth. No broadband wireless. Bloatware.

    Bottom Line
The HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx desktop replacement laptop delivers above-average graphics for a budget laptop, but is a subpar performer on productivity and multimedia tasks.

    ==========================

My bottom line. If PC Mag is saying that, it has got to be horrendously sluggish. FPS is all about the client, so if it slow with Word/Excel, gaming is going to be VERY slow.

    Question is why?

edit: lets see.. your CPU... well really APU in this case, is running at about half the speed of most desktops, and the GPU side (that is actually a part of the CPU. your design is a combo of both on the same die) has only 400 shaders, rather than a full pipelines. Nope, I think your notebook is running as fast as it can. Now you may be able to get a boost getting rid of all the crapware that was preloaded, but don't expect much.

Also apparently it reduces power to the APU to help not generate heat and save power. So it may be possible to change power settings for your laptop to increase gaming, but that is going to increase heat output and drain your battery faster. Do so at your own risk.

I have nothing to add in the technical department, but I would like to point out that in the report you posted the machine name is visible and looks like it might be your real name. Perhaps it is just a famous or fictional person or something, but perhaps not and you might want to remove it then.

there are few reasons why i think its not my hardware

DDO is what 7 years old? no matter how "bad" this laptop it, it is if not better than the desktop from 7 years ago.

    1) This thing is OC to 2.5ghz and no fps differences. we talking the same mid 30fps standing still looking into a wall. and as I said there CPU load is less than 30% if it is a hard ware problem should the fps change? And to top it off I have turn everything down to low or off in the setting and again if it is hardware shouldn't the fps be different than when everything is set to High?

    2) I have an old Dell Latitude E5500 and that one has no fps lag also running in the mid 30s fps with the same settings.

The HP is much faster than the Dell yet the Dell does not lag and i tested them side by side.

Only difference is the dell is on xp, and the HP is on win 7 64. I really dont want to reformat the HD to win xp just to play 1 game.

wonder if there is a way to force win 7 64 to run in xp mode?

It has nothing to do with Windows 7.

What Resolution were you at on the old laptop? What Resolution are you running now? People always seem to forget that the resolution makes significantly more difference in FPS than just about any other setting you can change.

DDO may be 7 years old, but the graphic certainly are not. there isnt a 7 year old computer in existance that will run the current DDO client at High res with all the bells and whistles turned on.

Turbine has updated the graphics a lot over the years. Every update seems to bring more eye candy to the game. Calling this a 7 year old game [graphically] is NOT correct.

You bought yourself a desktop replacement laptop. not a Gaming laptop. the $800-$1000 difference really does make a difference.

now.. If you are not seeing anything higher than 30 FPS, you might want to check to make sure you disable refresh sync.

all i am saying is that a lower spec older dell e5500 which cant handle the spec of the newer shooter games should not have the same FPS as the newer HP. I can play the other games fine. it is just DDO.

I only said win 7 it is because that is the only real difference between the 2 laptops.

I only checked the refesh sync because i read it on a post to have that checked.,
I will try without it and see if it helps. thx.

well so i download the AMD system monitor and it seems the crossfire AMD 6750m is not even used in DDO. Only the HD6620G is used. Which explains why my fps is so crappy and have the same fps as the much older dell. No idea why the more powerful GPU is not used

    Because DDO doesnt support crossfire.

Disable the GPU on the processor. Probably a bios setting.

well I don't know if the update this week did anything but the game today after turning on the laptop for some reason i got a pop up asking the game support direct 10 and if I want to enable it. I thought well it can't hurt. BAM! the GPU kicked in with everything on high over 80fps.

i did not reinstall the game. Did not change any system setting or bios.

guess I will test it later going back to Directx9 and see if I still get over 80fps. but right now I am going to enjoy the game for a few hours
