    Default Touch of Death

I have a question regarding Touch of Death, in my attempt to do damage calculations. What is the average amount of times that TOD will proc when you use the ability? How many when, for example, using Haste Boost IV vs. just using Air Stance. Have anyone done any reliable testing on this matter?

When you use the ability, you get one main hand attack roll. Then you also get an offhand attack roll chance based on your level of TWF (80% at GTWF). And then you get another chance for your main hand to attack again (10% chance with Ultimate Wind Stance).

So at most you'll get 3. Most of the time 2 though.

I'm fairly certain i've seen 4 damage numbers pop up from ToD before, however this is anecdotal and i have no real proof/testing to back it up. It seems logical that offhand attacks would also have a chance to proc double strike though. Haste boost on the other hand has no effect on the number of times it will proc.

Double-strike only applies to main hand attacks.

There have been occurrences of 4 and even 5 ToD procs, but none I know of for many months. There shouldn't be any now.

The multiple ToD thing was a bug from when doublestrike was first implemented. Somehow Sun Stance, Earth Stance, and Water Stance were able to get up to 3 ToDs, and Wind Stance up to 5 (when it should have been 2 for the first three stances, 3 for wind).

As far as I know, the bug has been fixed since then.

Ah I see, thanks for the correction. The instance i was thinking of did happen quite a while back, I guess it was probably before the fix.

I'm still getting triple ToDs on my earth monk without any doublestrike%, and triple stunning fists as well. Those only happen if you're hasted, but they still happen.

I've had it proc 4 times quite often. 5 times rarely (once or twice).
It's interesting to hear that it was a bug.

    ...that's been fixed...

I'll no longer say dark's as good a light. it was the 4 TOD's that made it so, imo.

I'd go dark just for shadow fade, myself....the ToD deliciousness is icing on the cake.

I've had 4 procs in ultimate air stance several times this week. Think I've also had 5 procs but not quite sure of that.

Now that I think about it, it probably has something to do with 6% doublestrike from handwraps and 3% doublestrike from belt (though I don't think these stack with eachother).

The bug is that ToD doesn't actually apply the way Frost, for instance, applies.
-Frost looks and sees a mainhand, applies to that, sees an offhand, applies to that when it procs, sees a doublestrike, applies to that when it procs.
-ToD (and some other abilities, such as Improved Sunder's Trauma debuff) activates a time window during which any and all attacks will cause a ToD.

If you hit ToD once, stop, hit ToD once, stop, ad infinitum, you will never see triple procs without double-strike, you will never see quad+ procs. If you use it during continuous combat, you will occasionally catch the corner and get these nominally impossible events.

For calculation purposes, my recommendation is to disregard the fringe events and calculate it as though it applies correctly. If you do want to test it, Improved Sunder with unarmed and no double strike would be my recommendation. By rule it only applies once per activation for unarmed, yet it can in rare instances generate double Trauma. Trauma has very obvious audio and visual effects and a numbered debuff icon in the examination window.
