Default Please add a follow option

Most mmos out there have some sort of follow command. It would be really cool if it was a feature of DDO. My wife and I play together and often wish for it.

    Default really??

You don't think it would be helpful for situations when one has to take a bio break or deal with kids or grab a drink etc? You could click on a party member and hit follow instead of making the party wait for you.

    Yay, more options for piking.

Still, I can't decide if it's worse or better than having to wait for someone being AFK when the quest has a "gather" objective...

I would love this! Whenever someone follows me I can go get them stuck in lava or something somewhere!

I do agree that you could have a lot of fun griefing with it.
What about just allowing it in public areas?

Easy solution - just remove the gather mechanism from all quests that have it.

If they add it and you use it in my party we are losing 10% as I am dumping someone in the lava

I can see this being useful. Not for me but for others.

maybe have it so both people have to confirm.

In the op's post its him and his wife, so I imagine the grief factor will be low.

As for other people grefing, if someone puts their char on follow and comes back to find they are dead then thats a leson learned.... only follow those you trust

Also, have a check box in the menu so if you want no part of it you can auto decline the request.

One other thing it would likely be a large waste of dev time to work on pathing for this so its another big reason not to do it.

thats a fair point Ive admitted my zero programming knowledge before.

if its going to take alot of programming then yea I agree thats a deal breaker.

Being as it would be the same as what a hireling does, or an artis hound, I assumed it would be a couple or 3 hours work for 1 person.

Hirelings will warp to your position if they get stuck, though. There are two options with a player follow command:
    1) Make it work like hirelings, in which case people are likely to figure out a way to abuse it to warp teammates past tricky parts.
    2) Don't allow warping, in which case the function will have mixed usefulness, since following players will get stuck sometimes.

I was just thinking of posting this suggestion to prod the devs.

Yes please to /follow and have mercy on us multi-boxers.

Intensely flipping between screens I'm sure is having a positive effect on my multi-tasking abilities, but then again it may be scrambling my brain.

They just got an infusion of cash, they need to appeal to jaded MMOers to make their money back and they have the resources to do so. Just look at the SWTOR forums to see what happens to an MMO that doesn't implement 'standard' features.

    no thanks. realy no thanks.

/follow always leads to pikers, gold traders, general abuse of the game to the detriment of the players.

and regarding people multiboxing... WHY? why would you do that? I guess its the same logic as those folks who hate TRing because its a grind to play the game again to get back to 20.

lets fix old bugs before we introduce new ones
