So...now I've read the whole thread.

Hey, many people made some nice suggestions.

This is a 6th birthday gift, and if people playing the game for more than a few years primarily have the pork barrel to laugh at, it's not *that* exciting.

And even the pork barrel, while cute and funny for a minute, is relatively useless (and this from someone with a tasty ham forum icon and scores of them in the bank.) But making it a powerful bomb, however, would give it a whole new dimension and actually make for some really creative uses in the game that people would *really* remember... and while the Hamstorm is a good laugh, creatures taking some bludgeoning damage from the falling hams after being blasted would be even better! Give me a powerful AOE blast/dot pork barrel and I just might take them on live. Otherwise, it's just chuckle-worthy on Lam... which is kinda sad since the idea of the pork barrel is really fun.

Anyway, you can leave the criticism on the table, but much of it is pretty valid.


Speaking for myself, I'll take the mnemonics or the cakes and be plenty happy for the freebie. But that doesn't mean I'll be writhing around on the floor in ecstasy or that I'll be drooling in anticipation for the next (9th?) birthday cake as a result.

I have a different take.

Some people expect others to happily accept a turd, and then when they aren't thanked for their generosity, they proclaim, "Hey, you should be happy it's warm!"



Now, to be clear and fair, the 6th birthday cake is no turd and I don't feel good about even insinuating it is. But there are people in this thread roundly discounting some very valid opinions that were given fairly. Just because some were hoping for something that say's, "Happy Birthday!" and not, "The next round's on me!" doesn't make them thankless punching bags for the anything-free-is-good-for-me crowd.


I look forward to getting the cake. But I'll look at Menace of the Underdark as the real 6th Birthday celebration.

I have still valiantly held onto my first ever ddo djinni cake for all these years (3rd birthday gift i think it was). Getting them again is a good thing - even if the cake djinni options have changed which is to be expected. What i want to know is if i've so carefully kept my little bit of cake from their 3 rd birthday when they give them out again will it no longer say "ddo 3rd brithday" and have the original djinni options - or will it transform into something else like the Jelly Cakes are known to do?

Lighten up a bit, while its a bit hard to tell without an emote its certainly something that can be interpreted several ways over the internet.

In any case most of the stuff in it is ok, I did prefer the original shrines of the original cake.
+3 tomes should have been pretty reasonable though.

I also think each account should get a special BTA special cake with some extra added goodness. But hey while I don't expect it to happen these are just suggestions.

I think many people have not understood the complaints be made about the choices of items in the list of items.

The problem is for older characters, multiple TRs, and people who have been here for a long time, the list is extremely underwhelming. As it stands 12 of 17 characters on the main server will be crunching tomes. Don't get me wrong I totally understand how for a majority of players who don't have 42 +2 tomes in thier library waiting to be used, haven't done multiple TRs, and don't remember DDOs first birthday how this could be an exciting gift. The problem is I am in the minority, I think almost everyone in my guild will be minority.

The question for Turbine is how big is the Minority, will 40, 25, 10, 5 or 1% feel underwhelmed. My guess that number will be somewhere between 10 and 20% of players. If I am correct that number is far to large to not do something. All that being said Turbine should update thier list before this event goes live.

If making the items BTA rather than BTC is such a big deal than add other BTC gear, huge bags for example, or unlock the extra backpack slot or.... A lot of things could be done to make this a great birthday present for a greater number of players, doing things like giving players huge bags, things most of us won't spend Turbine points on would earn Turbine lots of bonus points.

Oh gods yes. I'd love a single huge bag, or an extra backpack slot (if only to get rid of the !)$&*@& advertising on my character's sheet. Heck I'd settle for a removal of that advertising without the extra inventory space now that I think about it, but I digress...)

Some Astral diamonds could also be an interesting option.

Maybe next time you don't want feedback on something you should make a note of that...oh wait you are not a content dev so the feedback was not directed at you. Thankfully none of them have chimed in stating that they don't want feedback unless it is positive.

The feedback in this thread has been very mild with words like underwhelming being used more often then not when they have been negative in nature. A Turbine employee making snide comments about people giving their feedback is much more abrasive then any mild negative feedback offered in this thread by players.

i suppose who is whining about free gift is an "hardcore player" not necessary 12 years old... 18-45 range too i bet.

seriously those casual players who dont know in memory 100% of the game, who have no personal collection of raid loot, who dont whine for epic be soooooo "easy" raid "too" easy and refuse inviting pug into raid, who also don't have all +3 +4 tome + litany +3 exceptional and so on with casting stat higher than 32, not lamenting casters (well their casters without 50+ int or wis or whatever) being too overpowered...

those casual players who maybe aren't aware of prestige enhancements too, well they will be gladly happy of those free gifts...

In case people were unaware, the cakes and exp pots list themselves as BtA when you look at their stats on the trade window with the Dijin. I only have one cake though so was resisting the trade. The other items do list as BtC though.

To be exact:
Siberys Spirit Cake (x4)
Crafting Experiance Elixier (x6) (Major boost +25% 15minute)
Guild Experience Elixir (x5) (+50% boost 3hr)
Ethereal Rest Shrine

Are all BtA on Acquire. The other items are listed as BtC in the trade window.

Oh and the cake has a 180 second cooldown timer on it. Not sure why though.

EDIT: The 6yr old cake has the timer. Realized there were two cakes mentioned in my post.
