Default Portal Beater vs Pillars in Epic Von 6

    Folks,

Been reading that SMITING is the way to go against portals / pillars, nowadays. As suchs, crits, although not multiplying damage, do generate 100 damage normal damage.

So it seems for a barb, weilding a 2 hand weap, a falchion is the way to go for the better crit range.

Pillars are, in Vault of Night, Laweful Neutral, eh?

So would the weap of choice be Anarchic Falchion of Smiting?

the pillars have very low hit points why would you use a smiter to take it down either by accidental or yeah by accidental.

Because you can run to the base, and as you start to "play" with the elementals there, you can shout "PREPPED!"

Default Only happens on a natural 20

The extra 100pts of dmg from smiting wepons only procs on a natural 20. The other reason for using smiters on portals and pillars is the 4d6 extra "bane" dmg they dish out every hit. If you can get your hands on a True Chaos or Anarchic version of a smiter, so much the better.

But the crit range of the weapon won't be a factor. And if you're only using it for a portal beater/pillar beater, you might as well go with the weapon with the highest base dmg, since every point that gets past portal DR is one point closer to it being destroyed.

Are the pillars Lawful Evil like the portals? If so Holy of Smiting will work too.

It's fine until you get your Epic Sword of Shadow. That is now the best anti-construct weapon in the game while wearing a Blasting Chime, because it reduces their fort by -20%, enabling true crits to function.

I've ran numbers multiple times in Barrage and the extra crits make it more powerful than even a +5 Anarchic Burst [weapon] of Smiting. I welcome you to contest me. My barbarian is utterly destroying Shroud portals with this setup.

The pillars in VoN are True Neutral, so Anarchic / Anarchic Burst doesn't do any damage to them.

I can believe it since that would be a ML 26 weapon.

Epic Sword of Shadow, one can only dream : (

Withstanding the absense of a smiter (I have a bodyfeeder falchion of smiting - meh), and since Anarchic / Anarchic Burst seems to yeild no love, Min II Greensteel next best?

I suppose really am asking, with respct to the damage a Min II Greensteel Greataxe can dish out on the pillars, where does it fare in rank against other dps dealers - 3rd, 4th, etc? Can you really go wrong bringing a Min II into EVON6?
