Default First TR WF monk. Am I gimping myself?

So I'm about to TR myself for the first time and I was thinking of going earth stance and light path instead of dark and wind. I mainly just play with another friend of mine and don't raid that much. Will I gimp myself with this build or is it okay?

    In a word: yes.

Weapon finesse is, in almost every case out there, a trap. While you do get the bonus of extra AC, you will most likely find that your strength is only a few points behind your dex, once you're alll geared and buffed. This means you're spending a feat to get +1-3 attack bonus and AC in exchange for doing less damage and probably actually having less to-hit than you would have on a pure strength build.

So, what I would recommend on a 34-point warforged build is going with starting stats of 16/15/16/8/14/6 with all level-ups into strength. When coupled with the WF tactics line and some gear, this will give you very nice DCs for all of your special light monk abilities.

Instead of weapon finesse, I would absolutely take Improved Sunder. Weapon focus: bludgeon is also not a huge benefit to a strength/earth build, so I would probably swap that with stunning blow. If you make these changes, you'll have one heck of a beastly robot monk on your hands.

Yep same. 1st life my monk was a dex build, 2nd life str build. 2nd life is MUCH better IMO. Both are/were dark too.

Main reason for the high dex has been partly to make way for GTWF and that if I didn't like how earth stance behaved I could easily get wind stance without having to reincarnate.
I have not thought much about gear but I'll type in what I have now.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Corsair's skullcap:: Concentration +15, wisdom +6
    Siren's Charm: Constitution +4,
Greater Bold Trinket: Damage bonus +1, Exceptional Seeker +2, Shocking Blow
Widow Weave Cloak (Looking for another cloak that will benefit me more but have not found one yet)
Siren's Belt: Armour bonus +5 (mostly have this for the bonus AC from the set but thinking about switching it out)
Ring of protection +5: +5 Deflection AC
Brawling Gloves: Strength +5, Spike-studded, Glass Jaw Strike, SA bonus +3
Dexterous +6 Boots of balance +3
Ring of The Stalker: Manslayer, Exceptional SA bonus +1, Seeker +3
    Jidz-Tet'ka
    Gorgon Docent
    Goggles of the Eagle +10
    Vampiric Stonedust wraps
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not have any higher level adventure packs, I think the last one I bought was red fens actually.
Also atm I'm about 40k short of level 18.

I see your point about getting more strength instead of dex and picking up improved sunder. I'll tinker around a bit and see if I can come up with a build that makes me happy.

Serious question: why do you want to be WF?

If you can get Ring of the Stalker, get the Spare Hand for a belt.

    Because I like it.
And yeah working on getting spare hand as well.

Well I took whomheads advise on the build and I've come up with one that suits my wants. Now I just need to scrounge together some more tomes :P
